“not impressed”
Stuff are not friendly.
“Good for the money”
We stayed at the Occidental Grand based on our friends' recommendation. They have been there three times, and this was our first time. Based on what they told us, we knew what to expect. This hotel is not the worst and not the best, but it is a good value for the money. Do NOT allow them to put you in Building 10 by the pool - it is extremely noisy at night. We noticed they were maintaining the grounds every day. Hotel employees are very friendly and helpful. We were there to relax and enjoy the beach and did not plan any other activities. The beach is beautiful. We did an all inclusive vacation. The food is fairly good - a large variety - and available nearly all day long. Tip - try the taqueria upstairs by the Mexican restaurant - tacos, quesadillas and burritos are great - quick and easy!
“Best Vacation Ever”
I was quite worried when I started reading reviews about this and other hotels in the Punta Cana area but in the end I'm just happy I read those review with objectivity, meaning whenever someone complaints about not getting precisely what they want that doesn't make the place or the service bad. Let me just say that whatever we paid was nothing compared to what we got in exchange; we loved every moment of this vacation and the people made it the more pleasant, great customer service from the moment we got to the lobby to the moment we checked out. We had 16 people in our group (just family) and everyone was pleased with the accommodations, the food, the service and no complaints from our group whatsoever. My wife and kids want to go there again but I like to try different places every time, however, this one is on my list of places to redo.
“Not the best resort in that area for sure”
Being in a third world country I know that sometimes you just have to accept that things won't be perfect. I went there with an open mind even after reading all the negative reviews thinking it won't be that bad. First of all we did not have hot water in our room for the week until the day we were leaving. We complained a couple of times and then gave up and just accepted the fact that we would have cool showers. The restaurants food left much to be desired. However the pizaria and the Mexican restaurant that you didn't have to book were delicious. The guy at the bottom of the stairs at our building was selling timeshares. When he found out that we had no intention of meeting with him he became very unfriendly. The pools were great. The beach is awesome. The excursion that we took to Saona Island was amazing. The highlight of our trip. We made the best of it and had a good time. The bartenders were great. Lots of fun. The club Mangu was fun. Watching the dancers was great. The drinks were far to expensive. $7 dollars for any drink including a beer. You know the locals don't pay that kind of prices so why charge us American rates. That was a joke. Pre-drinking is the way to go. The place gets going about 1 am and is open until 5 am. Mama Juana is a great local drink. Have fun if you choose to go there.
“Did I sign up for a time share seminar?”
I visited this resort in 2005 with friends and loved it! I wish I could say the same for this trip. The resort has completely changed. The facilities were poorly maintained- Including exposed wiring on the outdoor pathways to rust in the pool and cracks in the walls and pavement. The resort staff appears friendly at first. They introduce themselves to you and offer their assistance with anything you might need. Our personal concierge even said that he could help arrange trips and other activities for us. It is too bad we never saw him again- His desk at our building was always vacant. The second day of our visit we were shuffled into a time- shareish high pressure sales pitch. We were told it was a welcoming orientation but as soon as we arrive and saw the one on one table setup I knew what we were in for. Our salesman told us that he would describe the vacation club and then ask us yes or no and whichever we decided would be accepted. We politely allowed the gentleman to pitch his case and said that we were not interested. I guess we were not clear because he responded with "why?". I wonder what happened that that yes or no acceptance. From then on we were bombarded by resort staff and other associates trying to sell their services and wares. By the end of our stay we were rested and relaxed thanks to our conviction to start ignoring people.
“would not recommend to anyone”
This review is pointless because it doesnt allow you to share any of the bad things that did happen. other then that the staff at the front desk were rude and non-bilingual. the resturants were booked for weeks so you had to eat buffet everynite. there wasnt a roof that didnt leak. my lugage was soaked from being in the room. my wifes hair dryer got ruined from the water comign through the a/c ducts. the airport was even worse. the hotel wants money for everything.
“Not Impressed”
This is really not the place for people looking for nightlife. The resort had one club that was not all inclusive (cash bar) . Half the machines in the casino were broken at one point during our vist. The resorts pool was clean and very nice. All staff was very nice. The food was Ok not anything to rave over. The room had an ant problem in the bathroom. I wouldn't stay here again. Maybe a better place for families with kids. ***Do Not get there before Check-in time you will wait until 3pm With no AC****
“Stay Away From This Hotel”
This hotel is not what it seems on the wbsite. the rooms are very dated, in need of a tremendous makeover. The room that my family and i stayed in had a bathroom that was in need of remodeling. Rust stains on the bathtube, missinig tiles and no hot water. The room itself had avery musty smell. Speaking to hotel management was also difficult. Many guest were complaining about the conditions of their rooms. The byffet area as another sore point. table linnens soiled, chairs soiled and in need of reupholstry. In general we had a bad experince and do not recommend this hotel to anyone until major improvements are made.
“Our card info was stolen and sold”
I stayed here in March 2011 with a friend. Both of us used our ATM card in the ATM machine both in the lobby and the one by the disco. Both of us did not use our ATM cards at any location off-site. Last week we were both defrauded through someone withdrawing money from our accounts. It appears that the machines have been compromised and someone is capturing card numbers and PINS and then selling them as the charges were originating in Columbia, South America.
“Angela will not go back”
Grounds and beach were beautiful..service was good. Hard to find English speaking personel. Food was horrible. Drinks were pretty bad staff very nice. Very young kids drinking. And crowded pool bar. No. Bar after 1am
