The hotel is very remote from the center. The SPA facilities were shut, including gym and pool. I booked 6 nights stay expecting to enjoy SPA massages, pool and other facilities advertised by the hotel. However, at my check-in point I have discovered that everything is closed. One evening I did not feel well and needed some medicines to help with the pain. The hotel reception did not have first aid kit and the nearest pharmacy was within 25 min walk/10 min driving distance. I had shortened my stay to 3 nights as it was simply nothing to do and not pleasant environment to stay.

Dear Guest, We are really sorry that you left our company feeling disappointed. Regarding the notes that you had wrote, we need to apologize. Unfortunately, in Portugal, saunas', jacuzzis' and turkish baths' needs to be still shut down. Regarding the lack of first aid, in the reception we have one, however, we are not allowed to give medicine to our guests - it goes against the hotel policy because we cannot be responsible if you take something that can have a side-effect in you. We are really sorry that you felt that you had nothing to do, once our location it is top notch to make some memories. We are really sorry for your disspointing and we hope to have you here with us, once again, when we'll be able to have all of our service open. Best regards!

We went specifically to take advantage of the spa which, alas, was non-functional. Also sparsely had warm water in the shower. Not great value. Albeit a great view and really friendly and very accomodating.

ok but not great
It was a neutral reception not as friendly as i am accustomed too. The room was clean but a bit more rustic than i expected. The toilet got stuck a couple of times water ran for up to 10 minutes before stopping. The wifi did not work so i had to used my hotspot. Breakfast was a great selection. Checkout i expect always to be asked how my stay was, this did not happen.

The hotel is old and some features are not effective. A/C in the room not really working and make room far too hot to be able to sleep. On the posotove side the view was really nice

A good mid-range option.
Staff were very friendly and helpful in a pro-active manner. We visited slightly out of season (April) so the local area seemed very quiet with nothing going on. However it is an easy journey to the center.

Good Price for the location, friendly staff
Hotel had a few quirks (key didn't work on the second day, housekeeping entered my room without knocking). Breakfast was good, didn't try their fancy restaurant though. Free parking across the hotel. Pro: Staff in general was really nice and spoke good English. Location was right on the beach, my room included a veranda with view of the sea. Con: Pool was closed for renovation. Noisy bathroom piping.

Hotel has good spacious room, but there is not much going on in the area. Stay disappointed by noisy guests, crowding around entrance drinking and leaving rubbish and beer bottles strewn over the place. Hotel is dated and tired looking, but sea views are great.

The hotel is very run down, paint and tiling is peeling off all around the pool. It is not a 4* hotel. Maybe 2.5* at best. The floor of the room was dirty, covered in the previous tenants debris. The bed cover was stained, as were the towels. I explained my problem to the hotel reception staff who gave me a shrugged shoulder response. So I stated it is difficult to feel clean drying off on a towel with stains or fell for rested in a bed with multiple stains on the cover. He then said he would get it remedied. When we returned after the day out, the stained bedcover was still there, the floor had been vacuumed, but the changed towels were still stained. It was disappointing. We chose the breakfast and it proved a good time to diet. The breakfast was sub standard. The breads, croissants and even Portuguese tarts were all dry and tasted like yesterday’s. I do not recommend taking the breakfast options. There are some great local restaurants to get a decent feed at. The location is great for a beach break. The bus to Porto takes about 40 mins and is only €2 each way. Loved being close to the beach, just wish we chose another hotel.

Older building with early 1940-50? Charms in woodwork and layout. Was updated in last 10_20 years but still eclectic feeling. Quiet location by beach. Need a car. We used public transit from across the street forc30 ride into Porto daily. No regrets

Hotel Weed rather than a Tulip
The hotel is placed rather far from central Porto it does have a nice beach but due to the Atlantic sea it can be rough and misty in the mornings. The Hotel has had an refurbishment and rooms are pleasant to be in. The hotel staff do their best to serve the customers but are sometimes lacking in knowledge. The breakfast is buffet style with basics to offer however the hot water machine splashed boiling water which can be dangerous. The spa is only manned by one member of staff and at busy times you have to deal with things yourself. No life guard near the pool. There is not much to do near the area it self. So if going to Porto then stay in Porto. TIPS - to get around the city buy the yellow bus tickets which includes the boat trip and wine tasting you can also use the bus for 48 hours. Taxis were quite cheap overall. Porto is a nice city plenty to see and do. Hotel Champagne bar was never opened during our time of stay.

Welcomed with friendly staff, explained parking free on lot, breakfast, wifi and 6.5km to downtown Porto where early morning strolls and late night lightS are so awesome and Un describable! We will be back, you can also rent bikes at the Hotel to ride the over 30km of beach paved routes.

Not the best experience
The reason I chose this hotel in Gaia, by the beach, instead of staying right downtown Porto, was because it was advertised as a relaxing place with a spa with many treatments. It also said a shuttle bus to the airport was included in the price. Well when I arrived, there was banging of hammers. All day long. This lady was at reception screaming and complaining about this. When I wanted to book my massage, they simply told me that the masseuse wasn't in for the day. No discount offered, no amends made. When I ordered room service, they didn't even bring me cutlery to eat with. And finally when I booked my shuttle bus 24-hours in advance to go to the airport on my last day, they said it was booked and all was good. Well, it turns out all they did was call me a cab to the airport which I had to pay for myself. So much for a free airport shuttle bus being included. Again, no apology, no explanation. All in all, it wasn't too pleasant of an experience. I wouldn't recommend it to my friends or family.

When getting a taxi from airport the taxi drivers seem to know it as Casa Branco which I think was the name of the hotel the beach area is Lavadores so mention both!!

The view was amazing and the room was very nice and spacious. Loved having a balcony with big windows overlooking the beach. Breakfast was great and at a good time for both early and late risers. The only negative was that the hairdryer broke and nobody came to fix it like they said they would.

Far away from Porto but truly great service! Rooms impeccable but spa disgusting! Parking easy and attached restaurant expensive!!!!!! Amazing free breakfast. Take the 12 bus to the end and you're at the cool part of Porto (2€, direct; take it back and the hotel is the last stop.

Hotel on the Beach
Vila Nove de Gaia is a pleasant city, 20 minutes by bus to city center. Excellent hotel, great balcony overlooking the beach, nice room.
