I had been to the abbey during a snowstorm 2 years ago and when thinking of a nice retreat away from the city I remembered this hotel. 2 years ago, it was bustling with spa goers, the restaurants were opened and guests had access to a gym and indoor whirlpool to unwind after a day of hiking nearby trails. There were even rocking chairs in the porch with a great refreshment hour. Fast forward, all these touches are missing! Sadly, they replaced the rockers with high top tables, restaurants don’t have daily breakfast, and there isn’t a whirlpool available to the guests. The restaurant changed significantly also- I remember coming with a friend and raving about the food- candied fig and prosciutto salad, bone marrow, and sticky toffee pudding with crème anglaise. The food was just okay. The grounds are well maintained and beautiful and then you make your way through the carpeted hallway to the single elevator that smelled like rotting garbage. Definitely not what you would expect at this price point. The elevator had different smears on the walls and the carpet was filthy. Checked into my room and the benches in front of the bed had visible stains on it. I am a very clean person and thankfully I brought my own cleaning supplies, and when I cleaned the toilet seat the Lysol wipe was dirty. Unfortunately, the area is a sleepy town and not as walkable as other Hudson River towns. There were very limited places to shop or dine at and further added to the disappointment.

Hello Melissa,I understand the changes since your last visit were quite disappointing. The removal of amenities like the indoor whirlpool and rocking chairs, along with the decline in restaurant quality certainly detracted from your experience. Unfortunately, the day after a holiday, additionally it being a Monday where most people are back to work doesn’t make the area as exciting as it is on the weekend or even spring and summer. The spa no longer has the whirlpool as we increased the spa with exceptional service add-on’s and added more rooms for these services.We take much pride in our property as well as our Michelin recommended restaurant with some of our top chefs and farm to table food. There are just as many restaurants in town that we always recommend to our guests when they want to venture off the property. Our restaurant hours are as listed on our website as well as the in-room welcome book. We do serve breakfast every day except Tuesdays. Our front reception did bring out some complimentary parfaits to you and your daughter and also offered some fresh fruit and juice that was declined. Also in town there are some wonderful cafes as well small shops and boutiques along with many other things-to-do that we have on our lists that we make available to our guests when they ask for recommendations. I’m sorry the missing rocking chairs were a disappointment as we did elevate our guests experience with the high-top tables and chairs to enjoy their beverages and snacks, while viewing our famous porch overlooking the Hudson River. Your feedback provides valuable insights for the hotel to address these shortcomings and improve the guest experience.

The Abbey was a perfect way to celebrate an anniversary. The rooms are just as stunning as the views. The staff is amazingly accommodating. The food in their in house restaurant was delicious. On top of all that the facility was spotless!

We really enjoyed our stay there. It was a very peaceful environment. Would definitely consider going back. I would always drive by and looked up and looked forward to staying there and the opportunity came and I cherished it. 🙏👏👏

A Wonderful Night in Peekskill!
My family and I enjoyed a wonderful one night stay. Beautiful vistas and grounds are just the beginning. Our room was impeccably clean and everything you could need was accessable. Employees of the hotel were helpful and gracious.The common areas inside must be seen to be appreciated completely! Thank you for a comfortable and memorable stay-we hope to return soon!

Beautiful property. We had a wonderful couples massage & greatly enjoyed our room. The mattress & pillows were so comfortable, which is hard to find. Most significantly, the restaurant was a 10/10. I highly recommend the steak and pasta dishes for dinner. Breakfast was also amazing. A romantic & special property. We will be back.

The services are poor and bizarre—no breakfast on a Tuesday, for example! And the staff seem demoralized and not interested in problem serving (with the exception of the bar tender who was a delight and very kind). Maybe they’re having staffing issues? Feels more like dreadful management

Magical beautiful environment
Beautiful property. Gorgeous renovation with attention to every detail. Room view of Hudson River and sunset. Had brunch, dinner and breakfast and enjoyed them all. Easy hikes in woods on property, seeing fall foliage. Did not use spa - prices high. Proximity to Bear Mountain and Hudson River towns. Wonderful way to celebrate a milestone birthday with a one night stay.

For such a great place, it was pretty run down. Dirty carpets in the elevators/hallways. Broken lights in the rooms, broken button to summon the elevator, the employees were pleasant but not overly nice. The restaurant was fine, but nothing special. For the price this hotel should have done better.

The Abbey was the perfect place to get some pampering and relaxation - room was great, staff was very attentive, the grounds & river views were stunning, spa & staff did a fantastic job, Apropos Restaurant's staff was great & the food amazing. I'm already thinking of when I can get away again & return for a short rejuvenation stay.

A big disappointment.
The buildings and grounds are magnificent and well-located. But that is where the good news ends. The facility is really understaffed and staff is either not well trained, doesn't care or has low work ethics. Only the person taking care of valet-parking did everything possible to make our stay pleasant, even far beyond his job, thereby rectifying what check-in and concierge - is there even one - failed to do. Restaurant is mediocre, and the evening of our dinner also understaffed. Wait time between starter and main course being 50 minutes despite only 20% of tables occupied. There was no possibility for breakfast the day we left and nobody could give recommendations for where to go. In conclusion: very nice property, but terribly managed.
