“Good Hotel within easy walk of Eurostar”

Condition of the hotel is good but room could do with some re-decoration and AC was not working. Windows of room looked out on the restaurant/breakfast area. Good for a one night stay if being within an easy walk of Gare du Midi is required. The free wireless Internet is brilliant - really true broadband and very easy to use.

“Nice hotel in party central”

Nice, functional, friendly hotel right in the heart of everything. Oslo prices are INSANE so I was pleasantly surprised to find a hotel that is within walking distance of everything you want to see and is reasonably priced. If you want to see things that are further away (eg Munch museum), there is an excellent tram system (it seems to be based on the honor system as I bought tickets and never had them checked by a transit person... roll the bones!!). Rooms are small, but hey this is Europe, so get used to it. This was balanced by the excellent breakfast that is included in the price. You are advised to fill up big time as it is a HUGE mistake not to take advantage of free food in Oslo because if you do have a hearty breakfast then you only get to worry about the price of dinner and not lunch as well. If you dont understand why I keep going back to cost you need to understand that Oslo is known as the most expensive city in the world for very good reason - an average dinner for 2 can easily cost $150+, so not eating "free" food is just dumb. I liked the Rica Victoria a lot and would stay there again, but only during the week, as on a friday and saturday night the street the hotel is on is party central and you will not sleep until the fun ends (about 3-4am). I was woken by street partying on a saturday night at approx. 2pm and was unable to fall back to sleep (jetlag) so watched the fun on the street below for about an hour - very entertaining!

Area recommendations
Oslo is very, very lovely, although frankly, it is somewhat sterile and seems to lack a heartbeat. It reminded me of Victoria, British Columbia (even down to the constant rain!) in that it has all the characteristics one assumes important for a vacation- clean, safe, family friendly, pretty, but it doesnt excite you like NYC or Boston or Barcelona or.... That said, it really doesnt have the majesty that one finds in BC (high snow capped mountains, bald eagles, orca pods etc), so there doesnt seem to be a counterbalance to nice but kinda dull. The area around the waterfront is really nice, and on a sunny day, a trip across the harbor to see the Viking longships is definitely worth a visit. We traveled across town to the Munch museum on a very, very wet August day (bring an umbrella!) only to find that it was closed for renovations, which was VERY disappointing. I know I should have checked, but really, who would close the main tourist attraction at the height of the tourist season?? I wanted to get mad but quickly realised that It isnt done out of malice, it just didnt seem to cross anyones mind in Oslo that closing one of the key attractions during tourist season is probably not a great idea.

“The rooms were very stuffy and warm. they could turn the temperature down a bit. very uncomfortable”

Great location, nicely done up rooms. very poor air circulation in the room made it very uncomfortable to sleep. If they could manage the room temperature, it would be great. otherwise very enjoyable.

Area recommendations
Oslo sentrum is surrounded by hotels. Great city, would go back there again for sure

“Well located but a bit oldish”

The building looks nice but inside is a bit too oldish. Close to the city center, large rooms but too expensive for what itn is....

“Value for money, Good location”

The hotel is well located. It is close to Karl Johan Gate (the main pedestrian-only street which is ideal for people watching). It is only two minutes walk from trams, buses and metro, and ten minutes walk from the main railway station. It is close to the fortress, the wharves, the City Hall and the Royal Palace. The hotel is modern, and good value for money.

Area recommendations
Akershus (fort and palace) for history. Musuems (Kontiki, Fram and Maritime). These are co-located, and accessible by ferry. High lookout at end of Railway line #1. - Good view of city and fjord. Karl Johan Gate. For people watching.

“Not Impressed”

The Expedia page indicated "wood floors". Room had carpet that looked dirty, no air conditioning and the window opened onto the atrium, so no air at all! I was so hot I had to use wet towels to cool off at night. Then awakened to dishes clamoring in the dining room which is the atrium at 5 am. However very good location and the staff was nice but not knowledgeable. I wouldn't stay there again nor recommend it.

Getting around
Buy the Oslo Pass if you are going to be there a few days. The tram system is outstanding and easy to use, plus you get entrance into several museums. There is a bus that runs from the airport to downtown. Takes about an hour but is only $30.00.
Must see
Take the Norway in a Nutshell tour! It is so beautiful. The Flam Railroad, then the Fjord cruise and the bus to Voss. End in Bergen which is beautiful! Worth the money. Norway is beautiful, expensive, but really beautiful.
Dining
EXPENSIVE!!!
Other
Get ready to spend some money. Cheeseburgers, for example, are $25.00 USD almost everywhere. I had 2 burgers, 2 wines and one beer at the Hardrock Cafe and it was $130.00. And the HardRock was one of the lesser expensive options. I was floored by the prices. The local food is just as expensive if not even more so...ie cavier and salmon.

“Great location. comfortable room and outstanding breakfast”

This hotel is a winner. The location is perfect...midway between Aker's Brygge and Karl Johan's Gate. The breakfast was the best of the 5 hotels I visited on my trip in Norway. Hotel staff was very friendly and free internet access was available in the lobby. The bathroom was also quite roomy which is unusual in Norway. I would definitely stay at the Rica Victoria in Oslo again

“Weekend break Rica Victoria hotel”

Excellent hotel near the waterfront, and easy walking to the heart of Oslo. The breakfast buffet was very impressive- something for everyone I think

Area recommendations
This location was very good, though some way from the bustling heart of Oslo, but a walkable distance, with lots of local bars and convenience stores on the way there. There was also a dress shop just opposite and the royal palace was not far off, where we were able to watch the changing of the guard. There was a little building work locally at the time but it did not cause any particular disruption or noise. The waterfront was very close where you could arrange a fjord boat trip. There are beautiful statues all over the city especially on the waterfront, again with lots of bars and restaurants overlooking the yachts. Oslo is a delight.
What to pack
We travelled at the end of May, and when it was sunny it was lovely and warm, when you could walk around in a T-shirt, however I found I needed light gloves for the evenings/ when out of the sun, when there was quite a striking change in temperature.
Shopping
I'm afraid very expensive, there were plenty of familiar products but you would have to double the UK purchase prices. The quality of the clothes was good and some ranges very colourful- a sort of hippy chique.
Dining
Unfortunately, I did not take advantage of the wide variety of cuisines, including Bedouin and Turkish, as well American. as well a fine dining.

“Nice Hotel”

Hotel Rica Victoria was the ideal hotel for my trip to Oslo which was the home of the Eurovision Song Contest the week I was there and the reason for my trip. Ideally located for the nightlife and the daytime shopping and close to the harbour for the ferries which take you to the nearby museums which are 15 minutes away by boat. Staff are very pleasant and always smile and say hello. The hotel is clean and well presented.
