“a little pretentious”
nice location...when they say the heart of old town they really mean it. Everything was within a few minutes walk and we only used the free shuttle once due to rain. Breakfast was very good and a decent price compared to others in the area. We went to the wine reception one night but it was very uncomfortable - a bunch of people siitting in a room drinking and not talking - my wife tried to started a few conversations but the atmosphere didnt permit it. Too bad really because it could have been fun. King room very very small - tight for a three night stay. No where to put your luggage and no place to sit really. after dinner and before bed I would sit on the one chair in the room and my wife would sit on the bed. Thermostat did not seem to control the heater - the room was unbearably warm so we turned on the air conditioning. The bed was very comfy...with a huge bolster which I used as a body pillow - I forgot to pack mine and thought we would need to find a Walmart. Overall the bed was great. Quiet neighbourhood with no traffic noise of loud bars near by. Things we liked - apples in the corridor near the elevator, bed was great, quiet for sleeping, excellent location, umbrellas in every room. Things that we did not like - shower was terrible, have to run faucet for 3 minutes to get hot water in tub, room too hot, other guests seemed unapproachable, no vent in bathroom, no place to sit in room, room very small. Still, excellent location but not a five star.
“Disappointing Kimpton property”
We usually enjoy the Kimpton hotels, but something was "off" with this one. Despite its lovely location and very nice building, the only people who worked there who engaged with us at all were the valet parking gentlemen. The staff was really cool, and not in a good way. We were annoyed that we left the hotel at 8:00 in the morning, and when we returned at 4:30, our room was still not cleaned up. The room was in the basement with no window. Somehow, it was really noisy, both with street noise and from the room next door. While we realize we got a good price on what is supposed to be a very nice hotel, it wasn't a good value. Knowing that Kimpton generally runs good properties, we hope they will take another look at this one. It's not well-managed, based on our experience.
“Wish I could stay longer”
We stayed a day at the Morisson House in old town Alexandria. We were delighted by both the hotel location and the quality of the service. One day is definitely way too short. I wish we could stay longer and I can't wait to be back there. The Morisson House is definitely one of the best hotels I have stayed in the Washington, DC area.
“Good value & convenient location for a near luxury hotel”
The Morrison House, a Kimpton Hotel certainly lived up to its Trip Advisor ratings. The staff is very friendly and somewhat efficient. First impressions are of a luxury hotel with valet parking and a concierge. We booked two rooms, one was ready on arrival, so we left our bags and went for lunch. The rooms were not spacious, but very tastefully appointed. Our only problem with the room was that the refrigerators in both rooms did not work. We reported that to the desk, but with no result. Perhaps it had something to do with the previous day’s hurricane, but we expected better. We ate breakfast on both days of our stay and found it good. A previous reviewer thought the breakfast was expensive. It was not cheap, but the quality justified the moderately high prices. No local restaurant offered as good a value. Yes, a McBreakfast is cheaper, but… This is not a hotel for the budget traveler, but it is the best value for those looking for something better than the big chain hotels – and the prices are equal to or below big chain prices.
“Awesome stay”
The hotel is in a great neighborhood, easy access to public transport. I would definitely stay here again.
“Perfect antique feel in a historic town”
If you think having a real room key is a plus, this is your hotel. Hotel was amazing, staff was also. Location and amenities were unimpeachable. A handwritten note and fresh cookies on my nightstand when i arrived put me over the top.
“Nice, but queen room is small.”
My sister stayed at the Morrison House before and couldn't stop raving about it, she had the kind suite though. We stayed in the queen room because the prices were very high. The room was small and not worth the high dollar amount we paid. There was not a comfortable place in the room to relax. The one wing back type chair in the room was hard and unwelcoming. It was our first stay in a Kimpton hotel and the room enhancements were nice, but the room size was just to small. The bed was very comfortable, great bed linens, nice Aveda shower products and a huge plus was having a rack to put things on in the shower. Great location in Alexandria and a charming place but if you're going to splurge go for the larger room.
“Great way to visit old town Alexandria”
I usually stay at larger, more corporate oriented hotels, but wanted something with a little character for myself and my wife. This hotel is a treat. Whatever we needed was supplied quickly and with style. The location, right off duke street in Alexandria, was more than convenient. Everything from the always available butler, to the unobtrusive, but always immediate front desk staff contributed to the visit. We were in town for a full week, and felt at home the whole time.
“Obvious why this hotel gets consistent high ratings!”
This was a very nice small hotel in Old Town Alexandria. Our room was not huge but well appointed. Because of several receptions, the advertised wine reception was not held. However, the staff offered to either bring wine to our room or serve us a glass of wine in the library! The staff was most attentive-greeting us as we went in and out. I feel that I could go back there in 5 years and they would remember my name.
“Love Alexandria!”
What a neat place! Old style hotel with beautiful rooms. Tall bed with bath robes and cookies waiting. Valet parking was fast and easy. Walking distance of the Potomac and and the Metro, not to mention all the neat stops in Old Town.
