Nice gardens shame about the room views.

Posted 29-Jul-2014
Pros: The gardens are well maintain
Cons: Cancel car parking fees.
Location: plenty to do and see.
Noise from station, view from the room was of the main post office in York, seem to be in the annex of the hotel, for the price we payed. We have had better for less.

Excellent access to the station

Posted 20-Jul-2014
Pros: Location
Cons: N/a
Location: As mentioned above
The hotel was fine though not having a lift to the third floor was a bit of a problem - the porter was however very obliging and helped with our suitcases. The location was excellent for sightseeing in York and access to the railway station. It was very hot and there was no a/c but that probably isn't needed much in York !

Disappointing hotel condition.

Posted 13-Jul-2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Updating the bathrooms and decor and wi-fi in the rooms.
Location: Walking from the train station and the old town.
The hotel was next to the train station which was great. However, the hotel itself was in bad condition, room needed vacuuming and no wi-fi!!!!

room hot at night and a little noisy when windows

Posted 10-Jul-2014
Pros: The hotel was a lovely historic hotel , good leisure facilities, fantastic breakfast - would have been expensive if not included in the room price
Cons: paint - use high gloss on paintwork and not matt - then it would clean better, carpets a little worn in public areas
Location: so much to do !! museums, boat trips, ghost walks, shopping and surrounded by history
the Royal Hotel was great - expedia was crap as advert stated b/fast included but itinary only stated room - ended up contacting the hotel direct myself and they included b/fast but expedia had informed the hotel as our stay was room only ?? and expedia customer support was non existant - i advise anyone to stay at the royal - the gym and leisure facilities were great and free to hotel guests - The hotel is a little 'frayed' around the edges - carpets a little worn but use a different booking company such as trivago or late room bookings and not to use expedia as my first -and only booking with them was wrong and the customer support did not resolve it - i sorted it out myself directly with the hotel

Relaxing

Posted 05-Jul-2014
Relaxing pleasant stay. Very comfortable and spotless room. Great pool and lots of gym equipment. Staff consistently helpful and welcoming- great customer service. Bed was spacious and so comfortable - I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. Extremely useful central location. I look forward to future stays here. I was actually visiting on business, but the relaxing hotel stay made it feel stress less and like a good holiday. Thank you!

Excellent hotel, great location

Stayed in the york royal hotel for 1 night, loved everything. Only complaint would be the temperature of the room was ridiculously hot, had to open all of the windows, still did not cool the room down.

A bit dated

Posted 24-Jun-2014
Pros: The location, cleanliness and the staff
Cons: Maybe a bit of a refurbishment
Location: Train station right on the doorstep, cathedral 10 min walk away, plenty to do in York as it caters for visitors
We had a pleasant stay at the Royal York hotel. The staff at reception and in the breakfast room were all very attentive and polite especially the manager at breakfast catering for my gluten free diet. The room was comfortable and clean but the hotel seems a bit dated with creaky floorboards. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
