Great Location

Posted 12-Sep-2014
Pros: Central location. Parking. Nice to see staff standards being maintained.
Cons: Didn't like being allocated to the Garden Wing, away from the ambience of the hotel proper. These rooms could be spruced up.
Location: What can I say about location? Perfect for exploring the old town.
Disappointing first night - allocated to room 5102 in garden wing, overlooking busy road. Radiator so noisy that we had to insist on room change for 2nd night. Much more comfortable thereafter. General standard of hotel services very good.

Lovely city break

Posted 03-Sep-2014
Pros: Location is fab, hotel provides everything you need. The weather was good so we didn't use the leisure facilities but it was good to have them.
Cons: It is being picky, but a mini-bar might be a good addition.
Location: The city is bizzing with life, shops, eating etc. If the weather is good, just stroll the old streets and soak it up.
Hotel is very central so couldn't be better located - right next to the train station which was great for us.

Too hot to sleep

Posted 02-Sep-2014
We just needed a good nights sleep before a busy day, the room was oppressively hot and the window was prevented from opening fully, sleep proved impossible. Shower pressure and temperature erratic. We didn't visit the gym but could smell the chlorine from the swimming pool in the bar. Staff were really pleasant.

Not as shown on website

Posted 31-Aug-2014
This is a mixed review. Room was a lot smaller than expected, based on the pictures on the website I was expecting a lot more for the money, the view from the hotel room was disgusting, looking out onto a mouldy mossy train station roof, the location wasn't as expected- the website makes it out to be a nice hotel with lovely gardens, not in the middle of a busy city centre with nothing but noise from the train station and busy roads. The shower didn't work properly, the pool area was very dated and small. However the staff were nothing but helpful, the reception area was lovely, as was the food and the staff in the restaurant.

4 star hotel near city of York

Posted 29-Aug-2014
No booking reference. Had to wait 2 hours in bar for alleged superior room with garden view. Had garden view but very poor standard room. Everything was a disaster and am currently awaiting a full refund from the hotel manager. I do not know how it has 4 stars!

Not worth the price

Posted 18-Aug-2014
2 star room for a 4 star price. The decor is very aged and dated. The plumbing is very problematic resulting in cold showers

Hotel with more to offer.

Posted 18-Aug-2014
Booked a weekend stay in a standard double. We were allocated a junior double with a garden view by mistake, which we thought may be the case when we saw the size (adequate for a business night stay over, but small for a two people weekender) we had been out in York all day and didn't check on arrival as it was glorious weather...'should have I know'. Next day all was put right by the DM a good discount on the room as we were there for one further night and it seemed silly to move and a drink for the evening in the room, so all that could have be done to put things right was in place by the staff as soon as the error was highlighted. All was excellent with the facilities ... pool and sauna are a real bonus during a rainy few hours...room and decor in various heavy foot traffic areas are becoming a little tired but overall the grand feel of the hotel is still there. It offers a different experience to the standard hotel chains... embrace its charm and it will be fine. Will be heading back soon.

Disappointed.

Location: Good location right on York Station and easy walking to city centre.
We were stuck on the 4th floor when the lift only goes to the third floor. Room was grubby with tiny bathroom.
