From the minute we arrived at this hotel/restaurant everything was excellent. The rooms, the service together with fabulous food. Would highly recommend and will definitely return.

Pros: location and cosy bar loung & restaurant.
Cons: Reception and more attenton at breakfast
There's no reception, check in is at the bar. Was handed the key in between serving customers at the bar. No other facilities apart from the cosy bar/lounge area and restaurant. The evening meal in the restaurant lived up to it's reputation along with the good service. The room was very comfortable but you could hear people above you and the next room very clearly. The breakfast was very good but we observed a number of other guests had to ask for items to be replenished. There was no one at the checkout, we left the key on the bar. Overall a nice location.

The Cook and Barker was a great place. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the restaurant was very good. We enjoyed having drinks outside in the garden.

Cook & Barker Inn was ideally positioned for our visit to Alnwick. Quiet country side location. Rooms OK but Food fantastic - one of the best meals any of us had had for a long time.

Excellent Service

The Cook and Barker Inn's staff did everything possible to make you feel welcome and at home. The food was wonderful and the rooms quite nice. Parking in the back made it easy to bring in luggage. It was nice not to have to run up and down the steps like most inns. I had to ring them the day I checked out and had gone to far up the road to return for a very important work notebook. They overnighted it to a hotel in Ireland free of charge however it didn't make it because Ireland doesn't do post on Saturday. I am still chasing my notebook, but have a wonderful review of that hotel as well and I am sure it will end up where I do. I would highly recommend this hotel. I did not realize it was so close to the 'Harry Potter" hotel and on my way to Edinburgh I was able to get a picture of the castle for my nieces and nephews....

Missed opportunity

Pub/Restaurant with Rooms: Let us start with the rooms, shabby, poor quality construction, lot of noise from adjoining rooms and corridor may maintenance issues. Restaurant to much use of "chefy words" in the menu - Italian pan fried chicken - Thai fish cakes. I have no idea how cooking in an Italian pan enhances the dish and what association the fish cakes have with Thailand escapes me. The annex where the rooms are is a relatively recent addition and would have been better to have built less rooms but with more comfort, luxury and facilities. The restaurant needs to concentrate on good honest fare well presented (which most of the dishes are) and have a menu that the limited kitchen staff can handle in a speedy manner.
