“Nice place”

Nice place. GREAT location! Took the trolly to Beale Street (cost $1) and took a cab home (cost only $10). The front desk people were VERY helpful! One of them gave us a map and great directions to several local hot spots. The other was very polite. The breakfast in the morning was great! Will be back!

“Excellent value and very convenient for Downtown Memphis”

First rate hotel at the price (compared very favourably with a Nashville Hotel that cost more than double). Easily walkable to Beale St etc, and a trolley stop almost outside. Very good buffet breakfast. Staff most helpful.

this hotel provided a good location, friendly staff and enjoyable complimentary breakfast.

Area recommendations

beale street provided great music and food especially at b b kings .sun studios was a memorable step back in time. gracelands was our main reason for visiting memphis which was the highlight of our trip. eating at marlowes and being collected by a pink cadillac was also very special.

What to pack

light clothes for June as very warm weather. enjoyed the heat and casual atmosphere.

“had a blast”

The hotel staff was friendly and the check in was quick and pleasant. The parking is secure and the neighborhood was safe. The motel was a short walk from Beale St. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet.

“Great value for money”

This hotel is a little way from all of the action, but it's only a short walk or trolley ride to Beale street. Great hotel with very large rooms, tea and coffee making facilities, good sized bathroom and flat screen TVs. Stayed here in November 2010 and the weather was getting a little chilly, but the hotel gave us a warm welcome. Very good buffet style breakfast. Free coffee and cookies in the lobby all day, every day. Wish we could have stayed longer. If you have a car, there is an underground car park. Rates were very reasonable - about half the price of parking in New Orleans or Nashville for example.

Area recommendations

Hop on the trolley (one block further in from the river) and take a trip to Beale Street to get to the heart of nightlife.

Getting around

If going to sites in the centre of the city either walk or get the trolley - it's not worth taking the car as it gets busy and parking can be expensive. Leave the car for when you visit Sun Studios or Graceland. The freeways around Memphis can get pretty confusing, so make sure you have a good navigator or Sat Nav for getting in and out of the city.

Must see

Graceland. I have to say that I liked Elvis before I went to Memphis. After going to Graceland, I've fallen in love with him and his music. Also, go to Sun Studios where Elvis made his first recording. The museum tour consists of just two rooms, but the guide is amazing and makes you feel completely emersed in the music made at Sun Studios, its history and the start of Elvis's career. Have your photo taken with Elivis's microphone.

Dining

If you want BBQ, the only place is the Rendezvous, in the alley opposite the Peabody Hotel. We ended up going back a second night just to get our fix. It doesn't look much from the outside, but this place has a great bar and fantastic food.

Nightlife

It has to be Beale Street. Clubs, pubs, restaurants and music
