“It's OK”

hello, i would recommend it as a BASIC hotel with minimal amenities. a place to sleep for the night. good value at the price i paid. the architecture and some of the furnishings are showing it's age despite it's modern feel. the chair i used had fraying fabric. the online photo looks better than the room itself. you got to pay to watch television. wifi is a major selling point for me. regards

“Not Fancy But Very Good Value”

Check in at the Salem, NH Red Roof Inn was quick and easy. I was pleased that they asked for photo ID to verify against my credit card. There was ample parking within sight of my 2nd floor room. Access to the 2nd floor was good; steps at each end and the middle. No elevators, but ground floor rooms are readily available for those who may have problems negotiating stairs. The rooms are simply furnished but very functional. It had a nice L shaped desk with a good work light, the sink and large mirror were along the back wall of the room, with the bathtub/shower and toilet in a seperate room. There were very practical amenities; refigerator, microwave, safe, and coffee maker. Curtains blocked light very effectively for good sleeping. The room was very clean and neat, and the bathroom/toilet area was one of the cleanest I have seen in lodgings of any price range in more than 45 years of travel world-wide. On the down side, the exhaust fan in the bathroom/toilet area was very loud, possibly enough to disturb the occupants in the next room. The bed and linens were also clean, and had plenty of pillows, but the mattress was like sleeping on a lighly padded sheet of plywood; not firm, just hard. The motel had easy access to the interstate highway but not so close that traffic noise was detectable. Lots of eating choices, from cheap to high end and shopping nearby and lots of local attractions reachable by major local roads. Very good value; I would stay there again.

Area recommendations
As a border city in sales tax free NH, Salem is a shopping mecca, especially along the RT 28 corridor. It has a wide variety of eating establishments, from basic fast-food to some very good local restaurants. It is close to the venerable Canobie Lake Amusement Park. There are many local lakes and ponds within a short distance, and the ocean beaches of NH, ME, and MA, or the mountains and Ski areas of NH are a reasonably short trip away. It is also a relatively short distance from high tech business areas in MA and NH. Salem, NH is a very good central point from which you can access a broad range of interests.
When to go
Salem, NH is a year-round destination. It can serve as a convenieht base for the Fall Foilage in northern New England.
Shopping
Salem, NH is a center for shoppers. If you are looking to buy something, you are likely to find it in one of the many shopping areas, malls, or single stores in Salem, NH. As a nice feature, NH has no sales tax.
Dining
Salem, NH has an exceptionally wide range of dining options available, from chain and local fast food, to table service fast food of varying grades and prices, and local establishments from simple and inexpensive, to sophisticated high-end dining; essentially something to satisfy most preferences and price ranges.
Family-friendly activities
The venerable amusement park, Canobie Lake Park, known and loved by generations of northern New Englanders, is a good choice for family fun. (I operated the Tilt-a-Whirl ride there as teen, many many years ago.) There are also lakes and ponds within a short distance. Salem is relatively close to the mountains of New Hampshire where there are many seasonal activities for families.

“had a lot of bang for my buck”

Other than the initial contact after a long day of driving with a staff member that was texting when I was checking inn, office staff was friendly and helpful. Clean and well run.

hmmm... really there is nothing to see there. the main drag has what you need as far as food. it is not a place to sight see. would not want to live there. it is a very good place to stay if passing through or if you have business in Salem.

“For the price this was a decent hotel”

No complaints. I was worried when I booked the hotel because it was so cheap that it was going to be gross or run down. But the hotel was great, it was not fancy but perfect for a comfortable stay for the night. So close to Canobie Lake park which makes it even better, after spending all day at the park and leaving late at night. The room was cute, deocrated nicely and the beds were comfortable!

“Salem”
