My husband and I stayed at the Delaware Hotel for just one night last weekend, but it was more than memorable. I called ahead and asked for a room on the 2nd floor due to my husband's health condition since there is no elevator. I also mentioned that it was our 35th anniversary. I acknowledged that old hotels have small rooms, but I was hoping for something bright. When we checked in we were greeted by Julissa at reception. She said she was the person that I had spoken to the day before and wished us a happy anniversary. When we got to our beautiful and bright room there was a vase of roses waiting for us wishing us a happy anniversary. The only thing the room was missing was a second table lap, so that both sides of the beds had lamps, and the reception desk quickly brought an additional lamp. When we headed out the door on Saturday to tour town we stopped by the desk to thank Julissa for the lovely flowers. We asked her about the "haunted history" of the hotel and she provided both ghost stories as well as detailed history of the hotel. The hotel is beautifully maintained with antique pieces and modern comforts. We will be back!

This place has seen its better days. Desperate need of an update in the decor in the common areas as well as the room. Seems like the clock stopped in 1964. Food in the restaurant was good.

Reading other reviews I’m not sure what folks expect or if they realize the effects of altitude. The Delaware is a quirky old hotel with loads of charm in an historic mining town. It is clearly getting a lot of love and attention from its current owners/caretakers. We walked everywhere and loved being right on the Main Street. We did not find our room or date of stay to be loud at all. But yes, the floors are wonky in places, our bathroom was small (but in the room!), and the room would probably be quite warm in the summer. We tossed and turned all night - that wasn’t the bed - it was the altitude. Staff was wonderful - the hotel bar perfection! I needed an iron, asked, and received. Things to be aware of: 1. No elevator. 10,000 altitude. Steeper than modern stairs. 2. No coffee/microwave in the room - coffee in the hall and it was very good! 3. Read the list of amenities - bring a hair dryer! 4. Ghosts. 5. This is Leadville, Colorado - not an urban center. I wouldn’t compare it to a boutique hotel in downtown Seattle or a renovated historic property like the Empress in Victoria.

Loved staying at the Delaware Hotel! Check-in/check-out was super easy. Me and my friend had a great time and loved what a short walk it is from tons of great coffee shops, restaurants and bars. Definitely would stay there again.

Booked and paid via Hotels.com, but was also charged directly by the hotel. It took two calls and an email to correct, but they did. Keep an eye out for this. That said, we really enjoyed our stay. They have done a lot of remodeling since our last stay a few years ago. This place was built in the 1800s and people should expect that. No elevators, no level floors, steep stairs, basic bathroom, small TV etc. Stay here for the history not for a five star hotel experience.

Ski Friends Weekend
The Delaware is an upscale, small, hotel in the highest little town in America. The service is wonderful, the staff is friendly and the restaurant is pretty darn good too! Definitely recommend a stop in to the bar or an extended weekend stay at this fine establishment!

Very old and unique. More like a bed and breakfast. No coffee machine in room tv is 15” very hot in the rooms. Lots of outdoor noise. You can’t block the light from the windows. But I needed a place to stay and it worked.

Disappointing Room
We were not happy with the room that was given to us. False advertising online lead us to believing the room we picked was going to be a lovely setting with a big four post banister bed with big windows and extra room. The actual room we were given fell way below those expectations, not even close to what we paid for. The bedroom was tiny, the TV was old and the shower was hardly 2x2. This was a waste to use my rewards on this stay and I wish we could get our money back. The only thing that really impressed us was the restaurant. I would recommend the restaurant and bar here all day long. But the hotel was a scam. If you book here be sure you check the room first.

Interesting, historic hotel with fairly well-maintained rooms and other areas. Most likely due to its age/structure, noise was a bit of an issue at night and we had some trouble sleeping. Check in process was mediocre, as the front desk person presented minimal information (gave us the key and parking tag), didn't explain how to get to the room, where the parking was located or really anything else until we asked all of these questions. Location is great, walking distance to just about anything downtown and only 20 minutes from Ski Cooper. Would have been nice to have a mini fridge in the room, but that's more than likely due to the antique nature of the rooms and decor. Next time we come back to Leadville, probably won't stay here again, but it was interesting for one visit.

How does this place onlt have 2 stars?!? I absolutely loved it. This hotel had such character! They've done an amazing job keeping the historical charm while making some mondern conveniences. I loved the bathroom, the white noise machine and the dimmable lights. I wanted to book the king but they were sold out. I was still happy with the queen but it is a bit small. And the downstairs was a very speakeasy cool scene. Still a lot of old fashioned vibes with updated touches. I will be talking about this place for some time!

I liked the historical aspects of Leadville and of the Delaware Hotel. I can appreciate the new owners have put much into renovations, but it still needs SO much work. The floors, walls, doors, structural parts of the building are buildging, drooping, slanted, etc. My partner and I actually slid from the top of the bed all nights to where our feet were hanging off the bottom because of how unlevel the floor was. That being said, there truly is a quaintness and charm of many other aspects of the buidling.The food in the Calloway Restaurant was delicious! The lobby was open and welcoming for a nightcap.There are no elevators and we stayed on the top floor, so I appreciated getting a workout in before I went snowshoeing the next day!! It was okay to stay in once but I would rent an Air BnB next time or make other accomodations.

This is an old hotel, so if your expectations are for a modern hotel, this may not be a good choice for you. There isn't an elevator which was no big deal. I'm guessing the staff would assist with luggage if needed. The room was a king deluxe - it was spacious but the bathroom was a bit dated, again, it's an old hotel. Loved the area around the hotel - very walkable and some good restaurants and bars nearby.

This hotel was wonderful! So unique and clean. The staff was so friendly and the restaurant that is connected was delicious! And my kids throughly enjoyed the free popcorn. We will definitely be staying again!

It was a fun quirky hotel.. Really felt like you were in an old west movie. They are updating the lobby bar and it was nice to hang out and have a drink. We would definitely stay there next time we are traveling through Leadville. Really charming town with lots of history.

Check your altitude tolerance...and is the lift.
Hotel was clean and charming. Great location.EXCEPT... we are a 70 year old couple who found the combination of the extremely high altitude with a third floor walk up too much. Might be great for young climbers, but it seems reviewers having been saying the same thing for two years. Time to get that taken care of. Still, management couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful.

The property is authentic, which means that not a lot of modern conveniences have been added to this historic hotter. the room was small, bathroom sub standard, and the original stairs with no elevator made it difficult for this senior couple. Character and ambience,yes, but not comfortable or accessable
