“A hotel by the Constantine Hippodrome”

A modest hotel with a wonderful central location. The hotel definitely has seen better days but still rooms are clean, maintenace is good and breakfasts are quite satisfying. It's such a great location and this fact beats all minor distractions you might get. The reception staff is very friendly, the breakfast room lady is fantastic! Good value fo rmoney in a very central Sultanahmet neighborhood!

Area recommendations
The most visited sites are within a short walk from the hotel. My personal must-check-out place is Leb-i Derya restaurant off Istyklal. Love it for spectacular views from its roof top location. Every time I'm in Istanbul I stop by there for a drink or something!

“Ideal Spot For A Short Stay”

Me and my son only had one day in Istanbul and this was the best place I could of ever hoped for. It is kitty corner from the Blue Mosque, Ayasofya is about a block away and The Yerebatab Cistern is inbetween them. Plus the Grand Bazaar the Spice Market are only about 20 walking minutes away. And the view from the breakfast room is one of the best in the city. The Breakfast buffet was great. They had a nice veriety of food and the views are great. The rooms were comperable of other european hotels. Not very big but very comfortable. The hotel had a comfortable lobby area with chairs, couches and rugs that gave it a home like feel. And it had a computer avaliable to use. The staff was really friendly and helped us with rides to the airport, mailing postcards and directions. I even called there to ask if they would hold our luggage if we got to the hotel earlier than check in time and they said they would hold our luggage. When we arrived they had a room avaliable and let us have it early. I loved Istanbul and would stay here again if I go back.

Area recommendations
There is an Hop On - Hop Off bus service that stops next to the Blue Mosque. If I knew about it when I first got there I could of seen alot more of the city. It ran well into the night and went into the Asian continent side of Istanbul. Istanbul streets are often a little tricky to navigate.

“Top Hotel for Top City Sites”

City's top sights are on the doorstep of this modest but well-run hotel, with helpful friendly staff. Fantastic views from the breakfast-room terrace of the iconic Blue Mosque and Sea of Marmara.

Area recommendations
Sultanahmet is the neighbourhood of choice and where the Spectra overlooks the Roman Hippodrome contains all the must-see historic attractions of the city. OK it's not the quietest location but any discomfort this might cause is well outweighed by its convenience.
When to go
Avoid summer - spring and autumn would be preferred temperatures for Europeans
Getting there
Strongly advise contacting whatever hotel is selected (if Spectra is unavailable for your stay) to inquire about the frequent and inexpensive hotel-to-hotel shuttle service from the new airport, the economy flights' alternative to Ataturk, which has a train/tram public transport service . Fine as it is the new airport is far outside the city on it's Asian side. We found it impossible to get information on arrival with no obvious information point and the language to us inpenetrable. In this huge, very clean and safe city English is well understood where tourism exists.
Getting around
Walking is best in the central Sultanahmet but there's an efficient modern tram service to visit sites farther afield. We'd recommend a day-long guided walk and a half-day on the Bosphrus as visior-friendly and cost-effective, picking up and returning clients to their hotels.
Must see
Everything around the Hippodrome, site of Roman chariot-races with Hotel Spectra on the corner opposite the fantastic Blue Mosque. The Haya Sophia church-turned-mosque-now-museum and the legendary Topkapi Palace with its gardens. The Grand Bazaar is an Aladdin's cave, complete with carpets that surprsingly don't fly out of the thousands of its shops.

“Small but good location”

The pictures made the rooms look much bigger and nicer than they actually were. The shower also was extremely small and the terrace smaller than advertised. This being said, it was clean, the staff were nice and the location was phenomenal.

Getting around
There are many inexpensive ways to travel so if you are offered something that seems expensive it likely is.

“Basic hotel - brilliant location”

The location of this hotel is definitely its strong point. And as everyone says, the view from the breakfast roof terrace is stunning. It's a very average, practical hotel. Rooms are small and some are VERY dark - the first room we were given was on the first floor and had just one tiny semi-circular window - but luckily we were able to move to a brighter room on the third floor. At the end of the day, a slightly mediocre hotel doesn't matter when it's so close to all the main attractions. It was also very clean and the staff were friendly. I would recommend it - just don't go with high expectations. It's all a bit smaller and shabbier than it looks on the website.

“Nice staff; hotel's seen better days”

Ideal location for the main attractions. Rooms very small (usual for this part of Istanbul) and slightly run down. Bathrooms minuscule. But very clean, the bed was comfortable and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.

“Good things do come in small packages.”

This hotel can not be beaten for location. Next to Blue Mosque and walking distance to all you need. Rooms where small but clean, staff very helpful and friendly. Will visit again. Great breakfast room with great views. Only downside moring prayer call and traffic during the day but just close the window and soon disappears into the background. Great for mature couples or friends weekend or single traveller

“Good in parts”

A nice clean hotel with good view from breakfast room on roof and very convenient location. However not helped to room on arrival and no chair in room.

Area recommendations
The old town as most attractive and interesting and good tram service connecting to airport and ferries.

“Right in the centre of Istanbul”

Hotel is very good for the price, clean rooms, comfortable beds. The location is perfect for sight seeing- right next to the Hippodrome, and Blue Mosque, you really need not take a cab/bus/tram ever to see the main cultural aspects of Istanbul. Downsides: The hotel is in the centre, the hotel is right next to the Blue Mosque. What this means is that it's noisy and busy in the streets outside it and you will certainly hear the call to prayer at all hours. In my mind this is a small sacrifice to make for the excellent location,
