“have always enjoyed the hilton hotels where ever I"ve been - NOW SO DISAPPOINTED”

I stayed at theHilton in June, this year, for 5 days and was very impressed with everything, from the comfort of the room, to the food, to the general service and amenities. So, I returned there in November for 2 nights and was astonished by the change I found and really disappointed. In November - they showed me to a room on the first floor at the back of the hotel . From the veranda, there was a view of a building in front and what looked like a lorry depot to the left of it - I asked to change rooms and was given a room at the front on the 2nd floor where the view was better. The room was very clean but the bathroom water was tepid only - no hot water for a bath. When I ordered breakfast , the boiled eggs, which I asked to be cooked for 4 mins, were cooked for less than 3 minures and were too runny/mucusy, the fresh fruit consisted of slice of orange, slice of apple, tiny slice peach and melon and 3-4 grapes, the bread basket was nice. When I ordered room service for an evening meal, the cannaloni was lovely but barely warm and the caesar salad was awful, the prawns were tough , the croutons hard and there was far too much dressing. On the first evening I drank beer from the mini bar and although the next day I phoned 3 times to have the bar replenished it never was. I visited the hairdresser (as no hot water in room) who was so pretentious he left me feeling very uncomfortabe - he had an assistant to hold the brush in place while he blow dried my hair!

“Very good location, great comfort , amazing views from the hotel lobby and rooms.”

This Hotel provided us with a comfortable and luxurious stay. The views from the hotel were amazing, the staff very professional and welcoming. The executive suites provided a great value when accessing the lounge. The only downside we noticed is that the toilets unfortunately didn't flush properly.(Older systems with higher water consumption).

Area recommendations

Taksim, Bazar area, Cemberlitas hammam. Always watch out for cheating vendors , negotiate everything at 50% of stated price (except of shops located in mall venues), even the ice cream and boiled corn is twice the price for a tourist. Visit the REINA open air night club located at the bosphorous bridge it is worth seeing. Also visit the new mall called "Istinye Park".

“Really pleasantly surprised”

This is a big hotel, and was very busy during some of our stay. But the staff, and standards of service were all very good indeed. Friendly, helpful and efficient staff. Well done Hilton. I would of course recommend it to other travellers to Istanbul.

Area recommendations

The area to the noth of the Hilton is modern and clean with lots of designer shops, and good restaurants. The areas round the main tourist attractions are older and much more run down.
