“Great place to be based in Saigon”
The Hotel is close to the Ferry end of town. Its a bit of a walk to the markets and museums, but if you don't mind walking around, the location is good. The service is first class. We needed to get maintenance help a few times - the light switch did not work, the shower leaked, the safe did not work and toilet broke! We were in the new wing of the Hotel amd obviously they have some quality issues, but did fix them all as soon as we asked. The breakfast buffet is good , it has a nice pool, and it has wi-fi and access to a couple of PCs.
“Exceeded my expectations”
We booked a grand suite & I wasn't sure exactly what to expect as far as room configuration went. I was very pleased to find that this consisted of apartment style accommodation, with a lounge room, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. This was a perfect set-up for our family of four. The suite was opulently furnished, and we felt quite spoiled for our last night in Vietnam, having stayed in smaller, predominately 3-star properties for the rest of our stay in Vietnam. The reception, concierge and restaurant service was friendly, efficient and attentive. The included breakfast was substantial and delicious. The kids loved the pool, and it was extremely inviting in the hot, humid weather. There was extensive renovation occurring to part of the hotel, alongside the pool, which caused the pool area to look quite shabby, but it will look fantastic no doubt when it is finished. Apart from aesthetics, we weren't bothered by noise or other inconvenience due to the renovations. I highly recommend this hotel for families with children. The area is convenient for most centrally located attractions, is close to restaurants, and for shopping (reducing the amount of walking or taxi trips that kids get sick of!). According to hotel advertising, it will become 5-star when the renovations finish (apparently end of 2011), so I don't know what will happen to prices, but at the moment the grand suite represents excellent value for money for families.
“Second time at the Grand”
Both times we have stayed at the Grand we had the Grand Suite. Two beautiful rooms, both have their own bathrooms and a beautifu loungeroom which enables you to be social with friends at the end of each day. Friendly staff at the pool bar. We enjoyed our stay, the only issue we had was with the afternoon coffee and cake. Thecake was like a rock. Thought I would also mentioned that there are building works going on and not due for completion until the end of the year
“Disappointing.”
Booked the hotel for a special Wedding Anniversary - requested a room with a view - the view we had was of a concrete building about 30cms away. Could not even open the cement splattered window because of the building rubble on the window sill. Asked for a different room, but no luck! However, the buffet breakfast was good.
“Great place to stay in Saigon”
The Grand Hotel Saigon was a great place to end our 3 week holiday. It was in a great location with many shops and restaurants close by. The staff were friendly, we got fresh fruit each day in our rooms and a choccy and story on our pillows each night.
“it's ok”
I would recommend it if you don't stay at your hotel room for a long time, the condition is just ok. But, for the price you pay, it's not a bad location, and you can get around easily. Just watch out for yourself @ the bar if you are a single guy by yourself...
“SLEEPLESS IN SAIGON”
This hotel is in the right location in the centre of Saigon, but the standard of the hotel is lower than we expected: it is not a backpackers' hotel but it is really in the 'cheap tourist' class when we had been expcting something better. In the event we stayed one night as we arrived late at night and spent a sleepless night on a very hard bed and then booked into another hotel (although we had to spend another night in the Grand). About a 2-star hotel and not really very good value for money.
“Grand Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City - Recommended”
Stayed in "new" wing of hotel, and had no issues other than noise from nearby construction. Room was clean, comfortable, and well equipped. Location is good. Concierge service for arranging a tour was easy, though a little expensive. Breakfast service daily is more than adequate, with a variety of dishes to choose from. Overall cost very reasonable. Stay away from the massage service in the spa on the 1st floor - you can do better in the general neighborhood. One minor complaint - terrible, terrible coffee here, but there is a "Gloria Jean's Coffees" franchise within a few hundred meters that more than fits the bill. If you are looking for a quite decent hotel in good location with reasonable accomodation costs, Grand Hotel definitely merits a look.
“Great hotel, even better holiday.”
The Grand is an old building with a newer wing on it. We stayed in the new wing. The room was much larger than expected, very clean and well maintained, decent size bath and all the facilities one needs. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the tourist advisors particularly were very helpful and gave good advice. The pool area is nice and has a great view of a new building being built which makes an interesting contrast to the older surrounds of the hotel. Saigon itself is an interesting place. Clearly a developing city with lots of building and activity. In 5 years it will be huge so go now whilst it still has a lot of the old stuff. The people of Saigon are very friendly and welcoming. In the markets they can get a bit 'urgent' with their sales technique but for the most part shopping is pretty relaxed. Prices are embarrassingly low, especially for food and coffee. We had two coffees, two ices teas and two cakes for $7.60. The food is amazing; we ate at expensive restaurants, cheap restaurants, cafes, street stalls, the markets, you name it, all the food was well prepared, well presented, tasted great and was cheap. The scooters are insane. Find yourself a nice cafe on a big corner and just watch it happen, it was quite amazing! Vietnamese coffee is a must, especially the weasel coffee. We would highly recommend both the hotel and the city as a holiday destination and we'll certainly be going back ourselves.
“One of the best hotels in Vietnam, definitely would stay again & highly recommend it to others.”
Absolutely fabulous. Great place to stay. Staff extremely friendly & couldn't do enough to please us. The breakfast buffet was very good with quite a variety of foods to choose from. A 10 minute walk to the markets but can easily catch a taxi or a motorbike. There are plenty of eating places nearby so no problem to walk to & a great little coffee shop right across the road from the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel. Only one thing, as there is a lot of construction work going on near the hotel ask to stay in the old wing which is away from the noise & the rooms are beautiful.
