"Amazing gem in Kyoto. Will definately stay here again next time I visit. Location is excellent, the rooftop view and cocktails are amazing, and the bakery and breakfast assortment is second to none. They even have laundry machines which were highly convenient after our 5 day Tokyo stay. We rented their e-bikes for a hike to the shrine which was very cool and easier than walking. The staff was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The room is big and the shower pressure is amazing. I felt right at home here and it was hard to leave. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!"

Higashiyama is a walkable neighborhood that's popular for its restaurants and bars. The gardens and parks showcase the area's natural beauty. Higashiyama is a great home base for exploring the greater Kyoto area, especially with so many hotels to choose from.

Sightseeing around Higashiyama

The monuments and historic sites offer insight into the area's history, while the museums add a sense of refinement. Browse the collections at Sannenzaka Museum, Ryozen Museum of History, or Kyoto Gion Lamp Museum. Sights like Gion Corner, Kawai Kanjiro Memorial Museum, and Kahitsukan - Kyoto Museum of Contemporary Art offer insight into the local culture. Ryozen Kannon War Memorial, Hokan-ji Temple, and Kodaiji Temple are monuments worth a look. Kyoto Ryozen Gokoku Shrine, Seiryuji Temple, and Gesshinin are some local landmarks. Bring the family to Murin-an, Kyoto Municipal Zoo, and Nanzenin Garden.

Getting around Higashiyama

If you want to get around the city, Higashiyama Station is the closest metro stop. Others nearby include Keage Station and Sanjo Keihan Station. To see the sights outside of town, hop aboard a train. Kyoto Kiyomizu-gojo Station is the closet train station, but Kyoto Sanjo Station and Kyoto Shichijo Station are also nearby.

Higashiyama is 24 miles (38.7 km) from the airport in Osaka (ITM-Itami). You can also fly in and out of Kobe (UKB), which is located 40 miles (64.4 km) away.
