“only if you are desperate”
The hotel was situated next to the train station - a plus - but next to a restaurant which can be noisy at night. There was no soap, shampoo, lotion , or anything in the room, there were wormlike creatures crawling in the shower, and no air conditioning that we could figure out how to turn on. We couldn't leave the windows open because there were no screens and the bats were up in the trees next to our window. The towels were small and dingy and there were no washcloths. There was no breakfast. The front desk host was very polite but they didn't open until the next day at 8am, so we couldn't even ask for the soap and shampoo, etc. There was a T.V. which helped to serve as a distraction, however. The youth in the neighborhood were rowdy and the locals who hung out at the train station were dressed like hookers or looked like they were under the influence of alcohol or drugs which made me thing this town as very shady. We only stayed for one night as a train stop on our way into Sain and were afraid to even walk the streets at night as we did Paris and Berlin. Nope, not here. If Montpellier has something to offer, the impression at the train station and this hotel overshadowed it.
“Not impressed at all.”
I am not satisfied about the hotel because it wasn't as clean as it should be, I asked for double bed and I got to single beds and my mate got 3 single beds when we clearly said we want double. When the next morning I went out and in the evening I tried going back to the room and I opened the room and someone else was living there.
“Not impressed”
Room was very cramped. Toilet door didnt close and no toilet seat. No plug for the bathroom sink. Poor lighting as only one light over the bunk bed part which was not required. Light also had no cover which was dangerous. Only French bolster style pillow which was uncomfortable.
“Avoid at all costs”
This hotel is the pits. I don't know how it dares to call itself a hotel. A drunks hostel would be a more accurate description. The reception is closed at 10pm, all the lobby furniture is removed and steel shutters brought down. There is noise and shouting throughout the night. Montpellier was full due to a conference or we would have moved. They over booked the hotel and there were people sleeping on the floor in the lobby. It was very bad and I do NOT recommend this dump.
“No Words For How Gross”
All of the previous reviews that gave the Abasun a 1 overall, could have been written by myself. But in addition to the extremely inferior bedding and bathroom faculities no one has mentioned the "air conditioning". Our room faced south and would have been unbearably warm without the ac. However it was on a timer and turned off sometime in the early evening leaving no option other than opening the screenless windows which faced a major and busy street. The trams ran in both directions until 2:00am and then started back up at 5. In addition street cleaners went up and down all night and deliveries occurred early in the morning. They also required you to leave your key whenever you went out. The tv received one channel and we don't remember any coffee pot or hair dryer. In addition the shower sink closet smelled of sewer gas or mildew.
“Basic, but I rather liked it”
Re-reading other reviews before I went, I was concerned I had made a mistake, and to be honest my first impression was that it was going to be a very long and uncomfortable two week stay. The room was very basic, but everything worked: the shower was hot, the bed was comfortable (despite the strange pillow arrangement), there was a desk to work at, and the room was cleaned daily. In fact, I grew to like its simplicity. There were a couple of minor problems during my stay, but these were quickly fixed and I found the staff friendly and helpful. This is very much a no-frills hotel - the towels are indeed small, the stairs are not child-friendly and there are no lifts. I would stay here again, but it is not somewhere I would stay with a family. At current exchange rates it is overpriced in terms of what we British expect for our money. If you want carpets, abundant towels, Wi-Fi, satellite TV and freebies - go elsewhere. If you want a brilliantly situated, simple, albeit quirky, base from which to explore this beautiful City, I would recommend it.
