"This is a quaint old style Bed and Breakfast, without modern amenities There are many stairs to the rooms with multiple landings and no lift. Not suitable for the mobility impaired. The single room I had was small and very hot ( in the eaves and one small skylight), but there was a fan in the room that helped quite a bit. Staff very friendly and a good breakfast. Pleasant enough, even with the stairs. "

"Really friendly staff. We couldn't check in early - which we knew in advance - but were able to leave our bags, and they were in our room waiting for us when we did check in. We got the vaulted room we had requested in advance. It was cosy, clean, and comfortable - even got tips for where to buy the pillows they use as they were lovely! Would definitely recommend and will use again next time we visit York. "

"Just had a 2 night stay at Ascot House with our dog Sid. I can’t praise it enough for cleanliness, breakfast, room size and decor with a fabulous bathroom. The staff at breakfast were extremely friendly and helpful (I have Coeliac disease which they catered for very well). Owner was very welcoming and even came to personally say goodbye. The house was beautiful and very elegant."

The only problem is the front door lock is not working as it should, and since there's no reception, if you make three incorrect entries, you have to wait outside for 5 minutes before you can try again. If the weather is cold and you've come from a long journey, it tests your patience at the door. Apart from that, it's a comfortable house, I would recommend it if they fix the entrance lock.""

"Me and my fiance stayed here for 3 nights for his birthday. Brilliant location, close to the centre and all the tourist attractions. The room had all the essentials, everything was clean and the bed was comfy, only downside was that the bed frame is very squeaky so was very loud turning over. Self check in was easy and the code for the lock box was given in plenty of time before check in. Brilliant price compared to other places in york, will definitely be back and would recommend!"
