Night-time staff poor

Pros: The check-in and check-out daytime staff and the staff at breakfast time.
Cons: Staff knowledge of where rooms are, transport shuttle service to the far lodges and rooms, and staff knowledge of breakfast times!
Upon arrival we were offered an early check-in and for us to leave our luggage behind the reception desk (brilliant!) and then a free choice of coffees whilst we waited for a taxi to take us to our destination for the day. First impressions were excellent. However, when we returned at midnight, the staff couldn't agree as to where our room was! We were left to walk through the grounds in the dark, unescorted, with our luggage, with no assistance from the staff. There was a 4-seater 'bus' which was supposedly broken.... and they didn't appear to want to do two trips in the 2-seater to take myself and my partner to our room. Very poor service. It was raining outside too... puddles everywhere... not good when you are dressed up to the nines having been to a wedding all day! The staff also said that breakfast was until 10am.... when it wasn't ! It finished at 930am. We were lucky to get the scraps left behind and that weren't removed to the kitchens. The morning staff and check-out staff were, once again, lovely and helpful. So, in summary, don't stay here if you need to stay overnight ... oh... oops.... it's a hotel. D'oh !

Location: Hartley Wintney,Antiques Market,Good curry houses.
We have been here before and really like the grounds and surrounding area. The girl who checked us in was very polite and efficient.The lady who checked us out(or tried to)did not have a clue what she was doing.She could not find our booking,if it was paid for or not,which room ect ect.We explained the we already paid Expedia and she still did not understand(By the way she was English!)more training required I think.De Veres staff are usually very good(We stayed at De Vere Hotels many times.

Pros: The friendly welcome
Cons: Would have been nice if there was a bar in the grange part of the hotel
Location: The location was perfect we didn't leave the site
I stayed with my partner on the Friday night and had a great night the staff were friendly and we decided to stay another night we will be back again

Basic accommodation and not value for money

I stayed in one of the buildings away from the main house. The room was very basic and tired. My room service took a long time to come and when it did it was cold and not what I ordered. There are hotels available in the area which are the same basic standard and half the price.

Lovely hotel near Hook

The staff was truly outstanding--very helpful! Grange room was fine and clean; comfortable bed. The grounds are gorgeous and we enjoyed looking around the small surrounding towns.

Shabby and a bit depressing

I stayed here for 4 days. My room was not in the main house but in a new build area down the main drive and felt a bit forgotten. The room was a good sized double but unfortunately the d├ęcor was very tired, paint peeling and muddy splashs (!) etc up the walls. My room wasn't cleaned, bin not emptied etc..on two days and toiletries not left. Although price was good, it didn't compare with other hotels in the same chain that I have stayed at. I won't pick this one again.

Pros: Quiet setting and quality of accommodation

Fantastic expedia low cost deal had me worried that the hotel would be in the middle of reconstruction or the venue for a noisy pop festival. I could not have been more wrong. The hotel deserves its star rating and is in a very quiet and peaceful setting. The main house is only a few minutes walk from the more modern and slightly lower rate accommodation block that our room was in, but there is plenty of parking, so you can drive between the 2 locations if the weather is bad. We didn't eat at the hotel, so I cannot comment on the quality of the food. However, it was evident that, depending on numbers staying, at least a cooked breakfast was available in the accommodation block we were in. Self service hot drink facilities were available free in the communal seating areas 24/7. The hotel appears well set up as a conference venue and has beautiful grounds if used for a wedding. The lack of leisure facilities was a small negative point and would have been an issue if I had been using this hotel for anything more than an overnight stopover. However, at less than the cost of a tank of diesel for my economy car for a double room I have absolutely no reason to complain.
