one night stay for business

Posted 21-Jan-2015
Pros: Bedroom decorated nicely
Cons: Bathroom condition, knowledge of employees and dining facility in all parts of the Hotel at night time.
Location: N/A
I stayed in the Grange part of the venue for one night. The room was on the small side and the bathroom very compact. One light not working in the bathroom and looked generally like it needed a very good update. Facilities in the room were ok. I had room service for my evening meal rather than having to walk or drive back to the main building on a very cold night. Was ok but nothing special food wise. When asked the waiter about location for breakfast he didn't know if there was any in the part of the Venue I was staying in. I therefore didn't stay on site for breakfast the following day rather than traipse around looking for the breakfast room. OK stay overall but not sure I would stay again.

Pros: Nothing
Cons: Redecoration!!
We stayed in the annex not the main house which was some distance away. The room was very tired looking and in need of redecoration. The carpets would certainly have benefited from a clean. We won't be staying here again.

Night-time staff poor

Posted 18-Nov-2014
Pros: The check-in and check-out daytime staff and the staff at breakfast time.
Cons: Staff knowledge of where rooms are, transport shuttle service to the far lodges and rooms, and staff knowledge of breakfast times!
Upon arrival we were offered an early check-in and for us to leave our luggage behind the reception desk (brilliant!) and then a free choice of coffees whilst we waited for a taxi to take us to our destination for the day. First impressions were excellent. However, when we returned at midnight, the staff couldn't agree as to where our room was! We were left to walk through the grounds in the dark, unescorted, with our luggage, with no assistance from the staff. There was a 4-seater 'bus' which was supposedly broken.... and they didn't appear to want to do two trips in the 2-seater to take myself and my partner to our room. Very poor service. It was raining outside too... puddles everywhere... not good when you are dressed up to the nines having been to a wedding all day! The staff also said that breakfast was until 10am.... when it wasn't ! It finished at 930am. We were lucky to get the scraps left behind and that weren't removed to the kitchens. The morning staff and check-out staff were, once again, lovely and helpful. So, in summary, don't stay here if you need to stay overnight ... oh... oops.... it's a hotel. D'oh !

Repeat visit on a sunny weekend!

Pros: Most Things
Cons: Reception staff training
Location: Hartley Wintney,Antiques Market,Good curry houses.
We have been here before and really like the grounds and surrounding area. The girl who checked us in was very polite and efficient. The lady who checked us out(or tried to)did not have a clue what she was doing. She could not find our booking,if it was paid for or not, which room ect ect.We explained the we already paid Expedia and she still did not understand(By the way she was English!)more training required I think.De Veres staff are usually very good(We stayed at De Vere Hotels many times.

Quiet location

Stayed here on business. Room was in The Grange. Very quiet, bed really comfortable, room nice. Food was reasonably priced though pizza I had wasn't great. Burgers looked good. I didn't have breakfast so can't comment. Is a long driveway to the grange, although well lit as a woman alone I wouldn't have liked to walk it on my own in the dark. So took car to main building. Otherwise would highly recommend and would definitely stay there again.

Stuck in the Grange which is a 5 minute walk to reception and restaurant. Staff disappeared like meerkats, sticking their heads out every now and then but never around when you needed serving. Dinner menu was disappointing with only thrre starters and three mains. The waitress had to ask a guest what was in one of the starters. Breakfast was also a total disappointment. Would definitely NOT go back again.

Experienced Hotel Guest Says

Posted 03-Oct-2014 on Hotels.com
The very attractive drive up to the hotel is very inviting, with parking close by the main entrance to check-in. When I was told my room was in the Grange and not the main building, I thought I may located in some kind of inferior room, perhaps because I had not booked direct with the hotel or group. It was a short drive to the annexe and a little difficult to find the location of my room. It turned out to be worth the effort. The room was very good, peaceful and quiet, in good order all round. I had dinner in the bar, within the main building and enjoyed the short walk there and back, as well as the food. The tea and coffee making facilities in the Grange were very good indeed. The staff were extremely pleasant. A very good experience and would stay here again. I would certainly recommend it.
