“Nice Place to Stay”

This Holiday Inn was very nice and the staff was very friendly. Room was clean and the bed was very comfortable.

“Convenient for short stay”

My husband and I stayed here in November for our anniversary. We took our 15 month old daughter (at the time), my aunt, and our beagle. The room was comfortable, but we had to change our room initially because we found dead bugs in the first room. The room was not very well insulated to keep out these unwanted guests. Our favorite part of the hotel amenities was the buffet breakfast. We enjoyed having eggs, bacon, sausage, and french toast every day, but they also had cereal, fruit, yogurt, and various types of breads. The sports bar was decent, as my husband and I went for a drink on our anniversary night while we watched the Giants play. The train station was right behind our hotel and a convenient 30-40 minute ride. I was upset about how this hotel misadvertised how long it would take to get to places in Philly, but nevertheless the location was pretty decently close to Centre City. Overall we enjoyed ourselves, but the hotel could use a little work to keep out the bugs and have a better heating system.

Area recommendations

I definitely recommend a family with young children to go to the Please Touch Museum, which was the highlight of our trip. We missed going to the Philadelphia Zoo, but it sounds like it would be worth spending a day there. One other thing I recommend is to try an authentic Philly cheese steak. We ended up going to Geno's Steaks, which is a bit out of the way in South Philly, but worth doing because it is something special to the city. Old Town is one last place of recommendation as all of the historical sites are contained there (ie: Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, etc.

“Fine basic hotel”

Hotel was fine, bed comfortable, pillows had tags marking them as soft or firm (a very nice touch, I think.) Room was clean and spacious. Wasn't expecting decadent luxury, didn't get it. Just fine for sleeping in.

“Great deal, good location!”

This is a great hotel for a decent price. It is on a clean, somewhat quiet road. Close to a few restaurants and Friendly's. Very friendly staff. Room was clean and spacious.

“Sub-Par Experience”

If there were a better hotel in the area, I'd have stayed there but this Holiday Inn was sufficient for a one night stay. I ate dinner at the on-site restaurant and the chicken was overcooked. The service was not acceptable -- especially considering that I had to wait 30 minutes for an appetizer yet there were only three other patrons in the restaurant. My room was either too cold with the air conditioner on or too warm if I turned it off. The shower had little water pressure. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were quite good. The other guests I saw were all chain smokers that continually gathered outside the main entrance and were quite noisy -- I noticed this because my room was directly in view (and earshot) of the main entrance. There really isn't another reasonable alternative hotel in the area so this Holiday Inn wins by default.

“Not a real 3-star”

I have had great luck with selecting 3 star and above hotels, but this was a miss. The hotel was very dated and didn't feel clean. The outlets were so loose that my plugins fell out of them. The bed was comfortable, but that was the only high spot of my stay.

“Will stay there again!”

We had a great stay at the Holiday Inn in Fort Washington, and the price was right! The room (and room service) were all great, and the staff was absolutely friendly. Can't wait to stay there again!

“Didn't win my repeat business”

We arrived late at night in the pouring rain, and loaded with luggage and were informed the shuttle driver had gone home. They would call a taxi for us. After about 20 minutes the taxi came. Although the hotel was close to the train there was not a direct path, except through several feet of mud. Breakfast was disappointing and very expensive. But the hotel and the room was clean and comfortable. I would look for different accommodations next time.

Getting around

Check on the proximity to public transportation as it is difficult to get around if you rent a car, and parking is hard to find. Taxis are okay, but expensive. The trains and subway system are good, but it helps if someone is familiar enough to figure it out. Trains are best and information is more available--both by maps and persons at the desk. Check schedules. They don't run all night to some places. I found people were friendly and willing to help.

“Excellent hotel”

This hotel is clean and friendly. It's in a beautiful neighborhood. The houses are stone with a huge estate close by and a beautiful stone church. The restaurant has very good food and a friendly staff. We love coming here and now try to get into this hotel when we travel to Phila.
