“Abysmal, even by Fort Stockton standards”

Demanded pet deposit in cash even though reservation specified one pet and that should have already been on credit card. No chain or other security feature on door and deadbolt was broken so I piled dog crate & luggage against the door the first night. Staff did fix It the next day. Carpet was filthy. Sheets had spots. Bottom sheet was not fitted and would not stay on mattress. Pillows were flat & hard. The bed itself, though, was quite comfortable. After I showered I noticed LONG hairs in the tub (I have very short hair). After the cleaning crew was in, bathroom smelled like urine; I imagine they had not cleaned their mops from another room. Cleaning crew started asking when I was leaving shortly after 8:00 a.m. even though checkout time is 11:00 a.m. When I asked for a do-not-disturb sign the clerk said that they did not have any. Walls were thin; I was awakened at 5:00 a.m. by the TV in the next room and by sounds from the adjoining bathroom. When checking out, I asked for a receipt for the $20 cash pet deposit and the clerk suddenly could not understand English.

Area recommendations
Fort Stockton has an interesting old fort which has been partially restored and each November they have an event called "Old Fort Days" which is very entertaining. The Annie Riggs Museum is an old nineteenth century frontier hotel and is absolutely fascinating. Other than that, Fort Stockton is just one long ugly town stretched out along Business Interstate 10 with a very few decent motels, the newer ones located nearer the main Interstate, and a lot of lower end establishments, like this one, which cater to oil field workers and truck drivers. My advice is NOT to try to get a bargain on a motel room in this town. Spend a little extra money if you want cleanliness, comfort and courtesy. I just found that out the hard way.

“Marginal Motel in a bad town”

Fort Stockton really is in the middle of nowhere with work crews from the local "wind farms" combining and forlorn travelers on I 10 for the majority of motel rooms. This motel was marginal in most every aspect. The first room that we were assigned to had not been cleaned and we arrived at dinnertime. After we complained, we were given another which had been cleaned but was very basic with worn carpet, running faucets, etc. The local workers were noisy most of the night. If I had to stay again in Fort Stockton I would shell out the money to stay at the highest end chain that exists there.

Area recommendations
Fort Stockton is probably ""the pits of the universe"" as far as a town is concerned but it is the only game in this wide swath of West Texas. I would avoid it at all costs but this may not be possible if you are traveling through Texas on I 10.

“What's on the inside is what counts”

Although on the outside it looks like it's just some old run down hotel. They just recently renovated the rooms. It was surprising really clean. The bathroom was nice and clean. Room came with Fridge and Microwave, A flat screen TV, and free Wi-Fi although it was pretty slow. Shower worked great. Only problems I really had was that the rooms were actual keys not the cards and there was a 3x5 open space with nothing... I guess its a nice area to store luggage since the room didn't have a closet or any hanging space. Overall, nice room for a cheap price.

“Good for a night”

We stayed here on our way from Arizona to central Texas. Not the nicest place. Receipts were all hand written, etc. we stayed with our dog and they told us they did not allow dogs and charged us extra but didn't kick us out. This was by far the cheapest hotel we saw in Ft. Stockton and you get what you pay for. The place was comfortable and exactly what we were looking for.

“Good for quick stop and rest”

We had to check in very late and was met with a quick and very easy check-in experience. When entering our room we found a clean room, with a very comfortable bed and a flat screen TV. The room was spacious and quiet! For the Price paid, and my expectations of a budget motel, I am very happy with my stay experience. I would stay at this location again for a quick stop over, but not an extended stay. The motel is in the process of being renovated. The staff was very polite and helpful.

“Good choice for an overnight”

Nice family-run motel. Nothing fancy, but very clean and comfortable. Especially comfortable beds with apparently new pillow-top mattresses, sheets nice and soft. Very quiet area. Old-fashioned a/c, if you have it on it runs constantly which I do not care for, but I usually keep any blowers off while I am sleeping. If you want internet, make sure you take your own laptop, as there is free wi-fi but not a computer for guest use. Proprietors very nice and accommodating. If you are looking for an overnight, very good value for money.

Area recommendations
Fort Stockton is a small town really. The hotel is in walking distance of supermarket, Dairy Queen, and some local Tex-Mex restaurants. There is a nice visitor center and a lovely outdoor historic display that is both interesting and well-done. We did not go to the old fort. If you want chain restaurants and motels, they are outside of town (but not far) off I-10. There is an attractive large roadrunner sculpture, right near a drive-through liquor store the likes of which I have never seen before!

This aint the Ritz. It was great for a nights sleep and was inexpensive. Just right for my travel of 700 miles in a day.
