Great location and breakfast!
Based on our single night stay, I would recommend the hotel. The room and bed were comfortable, with good linen and towels. Bathroom / shower was good. Only downsides were the steep and narrow staircase to get to our top floor room, and the (looked new) double plug socket and USB ports by the bed which didn’t actually work (not connected?). Breakfast (included in our rate) was excellent, and our bar meal dinner was also good. Location right by the locks and ample car parking were also very positive points.

Perfect Stay for a Family of 3 for 2 nights. The Richmond House Hotel is a beautiful old building with a bar. We stayed in a family room with a double bed & a single with access to our own toilet/shower room. The room was a great size with tea making facilities. It was clean & fresh, the pillows were amazing. On arriving we were met by Marion, who talked us through the Hotels policy for COVID 19 to keep everyone safe. There was access to hand sanitiser everywhere around the hotel & all we seen was cleaning going on, to the table legs & bannisters to handles. Marion was extremely friendly & had loads of helpful advice for us, recommending eat out places & places to visit. We had a great sleep & in the morning were treated to a lovely hot breakfast, Marion had seen I had not asked for tea & coffee I had mentioned I’m a fussy tea drinker & only like a certain kind of tea, 5 mins later I had a lovely hot pot of it on my breakfast table & the next day too. As a family this was a perfect hotel for us only a 3/5 min walk away from places to visit. We will definitely be returning here. Thank you. :)

Disappointing
The stay ay the Richmond hotel started off poorly. I made the booking because the room came with breakfast but on arrival I was told they aren't providing it and instead they would provide a sandwhich for lunch. I understand that Covid has changed how some places run but it is very misleading to advertise a breakfast room option when you know you don't provide it. If i had known this I wouldn't have booked this hotel and stayed somewhere else. For £90 for a one night stay the room was very disappointing. Very old fashioned and noisy. Anytime the guest next door to our room used the toilet there would be a huge noise in the pipes that would keep you up at night. Also for some bizarre reason you cannot control the heating within the room and the hotel switches the heating on at 6am in the middle of summer, leaving the room very stuffy!! Overall it is not worth the money staying here. You would be better off spending an extra £40 and staying somewhere nicer in the town.

The room was very clean, although a little dated in appearance. The bathroom was very small. The staff were very friendly. The food was reasonable although expensive. The breakfast was continental, and satisfactory. Ample parking, which was good. The WiFi only worked in public areas.
