“Great hotel, but cold shower”
Lovely hotel and room. Great breakfast with friendly Scottish cook who walks around interacting with guests and moaning (in jest!) Doesn't get 5 stars because took 10 minutes for the shower water to get hot!!
“Great wedding venue”
We really enjoyed our stay and the wedding at the hotel. Our only complaint, and it was very annoying, was that there were NO drawers in the bedroom for underwear etc. We had a dressing room attached to our bedroom but no furniture in it! Also the bathroom there was no where to put our toiletries. Other than that very comfortable.
“Almost, but not quite, excellent...”
We arrived late to find no beds made up for the children in the family room. We were also not enthused at the prospect of 2 children (aged 9 and 11) sharing a bed. The hotel staff were very helpful in finding an alternative set-up (two connecting rooms with one double and two twins). This was very satisfactory, but we could have done without the hassle when we had had a bad journey anyway. In all other respects the hotel was excellent.
“Hotel Was Nice - Restaurant Service Very Poor”
I'm afraid the celebrity chef Nick Nairn, who puts his name to the restaurant in this hotel, should sit up and take notice. Although the food was of an excellent standard, at these prices, it is reasonable to expect very good service as well. We didn't get it. Long delays between menus being handed out and orders being taken, delays between courses (always accompanied by an apology, but no explanation), the wrong drinks being brought to our table, the waiter not knowing what kind of bread was being offered (which we had to pay for), our orders for steaks being taken without asking how we'd like them cooked, no check-back during our main course, and despite being advertised on the menu, no dessert wine in the entire hotel. Apparently the suppliers can't supply it. This despite there being a Tesco supermarket ten minutes away - could they not have stocked up from there as a last resort? It took us 2 hours 15 minutes to have our dinner. Even paying for our meal partially by vouchers seemed to cause a panic, with three members of staff all standing around the computer, trying to work out how it should be processed. As this is the only dining room in the hotel, there is no exclusivity and from the name and endorsement by Nick Nairn, we did expect better. And as for the breakfast (which is held in the same restaurant), don't get me started. The duty manager was made well aware of our opinions in relation to the lack of service we received there. Very disappointing.
“Distinctly average. Will not be back.”
Everything about this place was average. They do not accommodate young children and babies. Public areas look good but bedrooms are in a poor state. Watch out if you ask for two adults and a child as the push a portable bed into an already small double room which means its impossible to move around. They will not help heating baby food at the restaurant and ignor you for service, all in all a poor show. Judging this against other hotels in the group such as the Coylumbridge in Aviemore I would say it was very poor but judging it on its own then its distinctly average. Would not recommend, especially for young families.
“Very dissapointed!”
This hotel has a four star rating, if they want to keep it they had better look after guests that have had a right to complain and not fob them off with an upgrade. We visited a three star in Dunkeld and it was so much better and very personal.
“Dunblane Hydro - A mistake”
Arrived at hotel at 2100 but couldn't get parked due to the inordinate amount of vehicles there - guests of the hotel obviously take 2nd fiddle to party goers. No advert telling us about a party going on, yet the noise was massive (even on the 4th floor) until 0100 at weekends. Matter of fact response to complaint about noise, i.e. "At weekends the music is played until one o clock" (why not advertise this then?) Elevator (Lift) was tiny and inconvenienced all hotel guests and porters. Room was average, but quite small albeit the bathroom was large. Breakfast was okay, which is the only good thing we can think of about this hotel. Will never make the mistake of wasting well over a hundred pounds on this hotel again.
