“A great get away!”

We went to relax and certainly reach our goal! This apartment buildings are set up in a very quiet area, offers an adorable dock, cute little beach, a good size pool with a surrounding area under renovation, 2 tennis court available day and night. Tavernier is close to so many activities and some really great restaurants. Great quality/price .

“Ocean Pointe! The best kept secret in the Keys!”

We had a wonderful relaxing time in a beautiful condo where we could look out our sliding glass door and see the sun rise in the morning and the sunset in the evening. It was close to excellent restaurants and shops. The personnel were very helpful and friendly. We will stay there again and again if there is a vacancy.

“Clean, Convenient, and Comfortable”

Ocean Pointe Suites are actually time-share condos that are run and rented out as hotel rooms by Provident Hotels. I'm guessing the condition and quality vary by unit depending on the individual owners, but our suite (5211) was great. Very clean and comfortable, with a full kitchen, two bedrooms, two baths, and two balconies with ocean views over the mangroves. Beds were comfortable, and everything was squeaky clean upon arrival. The onsite cafe is great for grabbing breakfast, and there's a nice boardwalk out over the water where you can watch sunrises or sunsets. The private beach is very small but fine for a quick dip. The location is great as long as you have a car or at least a bike, since most of Key Largo's attractions are somewhat spaced out and not really in walking distance. The complex can be confusing when you enter, so call in advance and ask for directions to navigate to the check-in desk, especially if you're arriving after dark, so you don't drive in circles for 10 minutes like we did. All in all, though, this is a great place. I would stay here again, and I would definitely recommend it.

Area recommendations
Take the glass bottom boat ride from John Pennekamp State Park to enjoy all the reef activity if you're not into scuba or snorkling (if you are, you can do those there as well).
What to pack
Bug spray - At all times of the year, the mangroves in the Keys make the whole area a mosquito haven.

“Great Hotel by Key Largo Standards”

Hotel Room was huge and well taken care of. There's no great beach on the property, but you're not gonna find a great hotel anywhere in key largo. Great hotel for a family on a fishing/diving vacation.

“Expected more”

We spent a couple of nights at the place and for sure will never go there again. What they call "beach" is a tiny space with nasty water - my kids refused to step in there. The pool was not bad, same could be said about accommodation. Overall rating - between 2 and 3.

“Great location and bargain for the Keys”

Location is great for many outdoor activities. Having a condo vs hotel room is ideal for a family with multiple night stay. Loved having a washer/dryer in our condo. Employees were very friendly and accommodating. Resort was quiet and restful, but this may be the timing of when we were there (as resort was not very full). The condo was short a few kitchen items, and sliding doors to porch had broken screen. But otherwise, we had no complaints and would definitely return again. Lots of resort amenities, including small beach, kayaks, docks, pool, basketball net, tennis courts and small restaurant.

Area recommendations
Recommend small newer restaurant named Taster's. It is about 2 miles south of resort in stripmall (by CVS/Pier 1). Excellent food. Wonderful service. Met and talked with owner who is very personable. Would go back daily if we could. But not best choice for young children who only want mac/cheese and chicken nuggets. Also go to Mrs. Mac's Restaurant for fresh seafood and conch chowder. A local place with tourists but a great stop along the highway.

“Think about the purpose of your visit”

Ocean Pointe is not a hotel; this is a condo village of 5 buildings or more. Depending on your location, you may be pretty far from where you want to be: pool, tennis courts, beach, etc. The guest check-in is located in the cafe, which is the very last building. Since we arrived at night, and the night security guy is never actually in the security shack, there was little guidance in locating it. The night security guy was NEVER actually in his spot at night. The floor plan of the suite is GREAT! However, it is not super well maintained. In our suite, the big screen TV worked only intermittently. One of the sliding doors to the terrace didn't close all the way. The large floor shower in the master bath poured out onto the floor because the moldy shower curtain was too short to reach the floor. The king-sized bed was full of lumps, valleys, and humps and really needed replaced. In the kids' room, the headboards were not actually attached to anything; they were tucked in between the bed and wall and just leaned there. The beach is tiny. It is pretty and clean. Like every beach in the keys, though, it is nothing more than a wading pool. The pool is pretty spectacular. We have competitve swimmers who were actually able to swim workouts here.

Area recommendations
Snorkel Pennekamp Park! Anne's Beach is amazing! Harry Harris Beach right near the condo is small and lovely as well. All of the state park beaches are spectacular. We drove across SR 41 from the other side of the peninsula, hoping to see wildlife. The extended drought that parts of Florida are suffering is really taking its toll. If you're planning to see the Everglades, there is not much to see there right now. It is very sad. If you're interested in a Brazilian style steakhouse (rather expensive), our whole family enjoyed Braza Lena just south of Ocean Pointe. The service, the food, and the atmosphere were all great!
What to pack
If you like to snorkel, invest in your own gear. While the professional tours to the coral reef are worth every penny, there is much to see on your own at the beaches.
Must see
John Pennekamp snorkeling.
