“Great Location and Great Price ...Room Better than Expected”
While traveling solo to Edinburgh, I spent one night here in a single room. The room was very small, but since it was just me, it was fine. The bathroom had been updated and was much better than I expected. I had a nice long hot shower in a very modern shower (better than my one at home). In fact, the whole thing was better than I expected. It was a single bed. The TV was TINY and channel selection was limited (like 8 channels), but everything worked. The room was a true garden level room, so not a basement, as it had a full window. Overall, I would stay here again as it was super close (I walked from the train station) and it was better than a hostle for only a tiny bit more money. By far, nothing grand, but hey...nothing bad either. The only complaint would be that there is little to no sound proofing and you can hear easliy conversations in the hallways, but those were few and far between. Nothing to disturb sleep.
“good location and good for the price”
great staff and a quality breakfast
“Good place to rest your head”
Cheap and cheerful.
“Affordable and charming”
The staff was very friendly and caring. The morning after our first night, they mentioned to me that my phone bill was already 30 pounds! I had made a mistake using my calling card, and was so glad they told me. If you're looking for a super fancy hotel with 5-star room service, then this is not the place for you. However, if you're looking for a charming and relatively comfortable place to sleep while you explore Edinburgh, then it's pretty good. The room I stayed in was fairly small, but the ceiling was really high, and it was comfortable. It was in a convenient location to walk to several shops and restaurants.
“Basic but Excellent Value”
A basic, comfortable hotel, excellent location. Very quiet and an Indian restaurant underneath the hotel that served delicious food. Although this may not be the most plush of hotels, it was very good value.
“great hotel, great location!”
i would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Edinburgh. The price is great and the location is even better, just a short walk to princes street and the main train station. I can't wait to go back!
“Good location”
The Cairn is located within walking distance to Princes St. and the North Bridge to Old Town. It is relatively clean and the room was comfortable. If your luggage is heavy, there are no elevators........ We did not use the restaurant but there are many restaurant options in the area. The desk clerks were usually helpful with directions.
“Good value for money”
I was allotted a room with two beds when I reached the hotel even though I booked a room with single bed. But looking at the room that I was in, I am sure the original room is quite good as well. Its a 5 minute walk from the train station and is good value for money.
“Well worth the money”
Hotel is just outside New Town, next to the theatres and 5 minutes walk from Princes St. It is down a quiet road, and not near any bars, so no noise from traffic or from revellers. Staff are very friendly. There are 2 downsides to the hotel. Firstly it doesn't have a restaurant for dinner, which is inconvenient for some, though there are plenty of restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Secondly there is no luggage room so one has to leave bags unattended in their lobby - though they will take smaller items and store behind the check-in desk. Overall excellent value for money.
“Ideal location in new town area of Edinburgh.”
Hotel was clean and tidy. Staff very helpful. Good area to stay only 15-20 minutes walk to explore old town and visit sights.
