Room key has to be picked up from a different location. I couldn't open the building door on the first few tries. Luckily one guest inside the building told me that I needed to pull the door while turning the key. Otherwise I am not sure how we could get in. Room is tidy, but how to tell if it is clean or dirty. Anyway I had the doubt it was clean.
This hostel was clean and did what it was supposed to do - provide a place to sleep and shower. There is a big kitchen you can use to prepare you own meals as restaurants are very pricey in Iceland. Only issue was that there is no way to turn on the lights in the dining room/den and there was no obvious staff on hand to help. It was after eating in the "dark" that a staff person came from behind the "staff only" door that we asked about the lighting. She had to go back into this restricted area to turn on the lights. Very weird. No light switches that occupants can use? One small light above a bookcase was in one of the guestrooms. But all that being said, it was clean and affordable.
