“Pacific Northwest Girl in a wet, cold November Iceland”

This hotel was perfect for us. We like to walk so the 15 minute walk into town was just right. The hotel also gives you a map with hiking and biking trails around the area which were short (3-6 miles) but still nice. The service was very good, once we got used to Icelandic culture. When you approach an Icelander, you have to speak first and ask for service, otherwise they will ignore you until you do. The hotel was very nice and the rooms clean, if not on the small side. The bathroom was super tiny but did the job. Privacy was not to be had as the bathroom had a large gap at the top of the door so anything you did in there could be heard from the room, which made it hard to let the other person sleep in. Also, the walls are thin so bring earplugs, normal for Iceland. The hotel had story night on Thursday, which I highly recommend. They also have a shuttle that does into town but only makes one stop that isn't that far from the hotel. It would be more helpful if it had a stop in downtown and uptown. We never used it since it was just as quick to walk back. The food was adequate but it may be worth the trip to go into town and try the delicious fare for the same price. We did a hike up to Perlan, the science center at the top of the hill, and it was a good walk and a great view. We also saw a bunny while in the woods, which was unexpected. I would stay at the Natura again and do some of the day trips that Iceland Excursions does and picks you up at the hotel.

When to go
Go when it is warmer and lighter out. It was wet and cold and windy for us which limited us on activities. It would have been better in winter to see do snow sports and see Northern lights or in Summer to have more daylight. We only had about 5-6 hours of daylight so it was fun but limiting. Also, the pictures would have turned out better if we had had more daytime.
What to pack
Pack something nice to wear and some play clothes, too. I didn't bring any nice outfits since I thought we would be hiking most of the time but wish I had brought at least one nice outfit. Downtown is very trendy and if you were jeans or a regular rain jacket into town, you will feel very under dressed. Everyone wears dark colors, mostly black and grey. The only people I noticed wearing bright colors were children. Wear warm things though as the wind comes off the sea and is bone chilling. Don't count on buying warm clothes there as everything is very expensive. Most wool sweaters were over $200.
Shopping
Everything was super expensive so I didn't buy gifts. One place that I wouldn't miss is The Hat Shop on the old harbor. It was less expensive, they sold bulk wool, and the owners were the sweetest Icelanders we met on our trip. We talked to them for over an hour and they gave us so much insight into life in Iceland. Go by and say hi! And don't miss the lobster soup a couple doors down at the Sea Barron!
Dining
Food is pricey, as everything else in Iceland. Three of the best meals we had were: The Seafood Cellar, The Hilton's VOX, and Icelandic Fish & Chips. Don't miss the langoustine either. Delicious! Try the Skyr. Eat breakfast at Cafe Loki near the church and get a traditional Iceland breakfast. It was so good, we went back for one last meal on our last day. The owner will even pack up a sandwich for you for your flight. Although, the airport food was delicious as well.
Outdoors or beach
I highly recommend going to the Blue Lagoon and the downtown outdoor pool called Laugardalslaugin. The first is expensive and a bit out of town so plan on spending most of the day there if you like warm water soaks in mineral baths. For the $50 entrance fee you can soak as long as you like and get in and out as you please. So taking a break for lunch and then getting back in the water is highly recommended. The water has healing properties but try not to get your hair wet as it will make it stiff. The pool in town is a 50 meter lap pool, a kids pool with slide, and hot pots to soak in. It was heated and wonderful! Just remember to thoroughly bathe from head to toe without your suit before you get in either pools as they don't use chlorine.

“good location”

This hotel was located right next to the bus station. Could easily walk there. This was great for tours. We also were able to walk downtown about 20 minutes.

“Good for the night.”

We just needed a hotel for the night. The location isn't great - you would need a car to get to anything - except the regional airport (not the international). Internet was ultra slow.

“I like this hotel”

I have stayed at this hotel several times. It was formerly called the Loftleidir, but is now called Reykjavik Natura, and some renovations have been done (and are still going on). I like it for its location (a comfortable walk out of town), for the space around it, for the comfort of the rooms, etc. The staff are helpful and the breakfast is good. I am looking forward to staying there again.

“Fell in Love with Reykjavik”

Stayed at the Reykjavik Hotel Natura, which was undergoing a renovation and upgrade. The staff went out of their way to make our stay wonderful. They provided electrical adapters, a fan upon request, and helped us book things such as a rental car or day tours. The room we stayed in was next to the small Reykjavik airport, so the planes could wake you up in the morning if you are a light sleeper. But having a fan drone in the background as white noise really helped. The hotel is across the street from The Pearl, which is really a cool place with an observatory and a great restaurant as well as hiking trails and lots of bunnies. It's about a mile and a half from town, which isn't bad if you like to walk. The walking trails are great to and from the hotel into downtown. You can also rent bikes, or, if you do a day tour, the drivers pick you up right out front. I got a pedicure at the Natura spa in the lower level. It was very relaxing. I would definitely stay at the hotel again. It was clean, tastefully decorated and the food was good.

Area recommendations
If you like nightlife, stay in the downtown area because that is where most of the bars and restaurants are located. If you want to hike and explore and do adventure tours, then stay at the Hotel Natura. It's a little outside of the city center, yet close enough to walk into town and enjoy the activities there.
When to go
I think anytime is a great time to visit Iceland. If you want to see the Northern lights, the locals say the best time is December and January.
Getting there
We flew from Boston's Logan airport on Icelandair and both trips were great. The airline staff is courteous, helpful and did everything to make the trip enjoyable.
Getting around
Reykjavik is really a walking/cycling friendly city. There are lots of trails and places to explore. If you want to rent a car, do it through a national chain and rent it prior to going to Iceland. We rented a car for one day and it was pricey, about $100 for one day.
Events and shows
Try to catch a concert or show at their new concert venue, Harpa. It's really unique. If you are there on a weekend, go to the flea market downtown. You'll find everything from horse meat to old knick knacks.
Outdoors or beach
Do not miss the Blue Lagoon. Unreal.

“Can't wait to go back”

A very modern, stylish, beautifully decorated hotel with an indoor swimmingpool that was just breathtaking. A very helpful and gracious staff.

Area recommendations
A hike up the hill to Perlan is a must. The downtown area with the little lake and its many birds and geese is a charming place to visit. Hallgrims church with its world renowned organ is another downtown attraction worth taking in.

“Right in the middle of everything important”

A good fifteen to thirty minute walk from Reykjavik, but its actually a nice walk. You They also have a free shuttle that goes to the city center from the hotel.. Really convenient, really. The staff is friendly, and will actually talk back if you talk to them. Everyone (like everyone else in Iceland) speaks English. I was there in late March/early April of 2011, and they were doing a little construction, but it looked like it'd be awesome when it was done. There's a computer in the basement that you can use if you don't bring your own computer.

Area recommendations
The main street in downtown Reykjavik (Laugavegur) is a good spot to just see the shops. More than anything though, I recommend getting out of the city and seeing some of the island for what it is - beautiful!! I recommend some tours down along the south shore, or at least the Golden Circle. Words cannot explain that beauty.
Shopping
Make sure you have the currency exchange rate right for money! I went by google's rates, and it was NOT correct (at least not for me at the time) I ended up spending more money than I wanted to. Just double check with a second source or local bank.

“Overall, Good Experience.”

My time at this hotel was overall a good experience during March of 2011. The hotel was undergoing construction, but that didn't really impact my stay. My room and common areas were in good shape. Staff was very helpful with every question especially about area attractions and transportation options. Many tours pick up right from the hotel which was wonderful as the hotel is a decent walk away from the city centre. The hotel itself also offers a shuttle to and from the city centre about six times a day.
