“Simple but Good”
The Hotel Tara palace is EXTREMELY difficult for taxi drivers to find - but once you get there, you'll love it. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful (although we weren't super impressed with their on-site travel agency). They took good care of us the entire time we were there.
“Good value for the cost”
The hotel staff was great and very accomodating. The food was ok if you like Indian food. I'm not a big fan and wished they had a bigger selection of western food, but what I had was good. The main problem is the entrance and the surrounding neighboorhood. You enter down a alley that is typical old Delhi. It's not very clean. In fact the whold area is Old Delhi and you'll see a lot of sights and smells that are not very pleasant. But once you get used to it...it may take a couple of days...it has a particular charm and flavor that you'll not find anywhere else. Chandi Chowk is just around the corner and you'll find a lot of bargain shopping at the local markets. Close to the Jama Masjid and Red Fort and only a walk away from the Metro. All in all it was a good experience and even though the hotel only has wi-fi in the lobby...they also have a computer there for guests to use... I thought it was a good deal for what I paid.
“Nice Hotel in an Unlikely Location”
Overall, I think this hotel was good value, but there are undeniable tradeoffs. The hotel is clean, neat, and cheap for Delhi, the 24 hour room service is useful, and they give you free internet for the first 15 minutes (100 rupees thereafter). The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a pretty intense area of town. There is a huge market right outside. That said, the hotel itself is reasonably quiet for sleeping, only everything's tiled and there can be some loud bangs of doors etc. But its Delhi, so expect things like that. The hotel is down a little alley, that looks very suspicious, but is probably safer than it looks. I wouldn't want to be a woman travelling alone in this part of town, but I'd say it's totally fine if you're travelling with someone else or with your family. The hotel is easy to get to by taxi (ask to be taken to the 'red fort') and near Chandi Chowk metro station to get to the new parts of Delhi in about 1/2 an hour. Overall, good mid range hotel for Delhi.
“Well... It's almost okay.”
The hotel is okay, just don't ask help from the reception if you need to go to Delhi's tourist information center. They will bring you to a small private office where you eventually get what you DON'T wish for a rip-off price. Use your map and an independent driver instead. The rest was fine.
“Quality Economic Hotel in the Heart of Old Delhi”
The hotel is located in the heart of Old Delhi, easy walking distance to the Red Fort and Jama Masjid, and the Metro. The hotel is located down a small ally way in the bicycle district of Old Delhi. When we arrived around 1:00am in the morning it seamed very sketchy, but come daylight it really was not bad at all. We easily spend the day easily walking around Old Delhi, and to the close monuments, and the hotel is easy to find and get back to (once you know where it is). There is plenty of street food close by (and other food), and lots of activity and shopping in Old Delhi. The hotel is comprised of several rooms, the AC worked very well, and I can't tell you if the hot water worked because honestly it was so warm out side in mid June that a cool shower was very welcomed. Out of all the properties that we visited on our trip, this one was among the cleanest. The breakfast was also good, simple yet complete. The only issue was that they tried to claim that there were slippers in the room when we checked out that had gone missing. There were never any slippers, so I don't know if this was an honest mistake, or their attempt to get extra money out of us (but we never paid extra). If I ever come back to Delhi, I would consider staying here again.
“Walking distance to Red fort and Sish Ganj Gurdwara”
My family stayed at this hotel and I had booked it online from Expedia. So, I am writing this review on their behalf. We had no problems in booking or any other kind. They really liked the place because of its excellent location. Staff was nice and well mannered.
“Our Best Stay in India”
Even after arriving 12 hours late, the front desk staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff was eager to help and the included breakfast delivered to the room was a nice service. We were happy to have a clean, quiet hotel after 3 weeks in India. One downside is the eagerness of the staff to enter your room whenever they come to the door, but this is a cultural thing that happens everywhere in India. There is wi-fi available, but you have to use it in the lobby. They claim to be a money changer, but it is just a man in the Chandi Chowk market who they call so see if he wants to change your money. If you have any other currency than USD or Euro (we live in Korea, and thus carry Korean currency) he will try to exchange at 75% of its value. The restaurant is convenient and 24hours, but definitely not the best food we've eaten. It does in a pinch, but there are so many good places in the market nearby, it is better to go there. The location is in a safe, alley way in the Old Cycle Market. It is a prime location for seeing the Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Chandi Chowk. It is not a touristy street, so you can safely walk around without the usual touts barking at you. Overall, I would recommend this place as a mid-range hotel that is a nice place to relax away from the craziness that is India. It is clean and comfortable, with accommodating staff. We would definitely stay there again.
“Nice and clean hotel in Old Delhi”
Hotel was very nice and the staff was very helpful. The room was spacious and clean, breakfasts were nice as well. The only disadvantage is the surroundings of the hotel - I wouldn't recommend walking there alone after dark. But that's what you should expect at Old Delhi.
“Not a good hotel for a first day in Delhi.”
Having spent time in both old n new delhi, i would definitely choose new delhi for sleeping. Inside the hotel everything is worth the price but the area is very crowded n dirty. I would not advise anyone to follow what the people at the reception tell u to do, they will make u visit some city centre which will be a waste of time n money.
“Inexpensive, convenient to Old Delhi, clean”
When we first arrived, at 1 AM, we were a little frightened. The street is dirty and crowded, with many people sleeping by the side of the road, and then you have to go down a dark alley to get to the Tara Palace. But, once there, it is clean, with a helpful staff, and relatively quiet. There is a decent, if not exceptional, restaurant in the hotel. When you walk out the door you are in the heart of Old Delhi, which is crowded but fascinating, and in walking distance of the Red Fort, the mosque, a Sikh and Jain temple, and wonderful markets.
