“Nice Hotel in unlikely location”
You wouldn't expect this nice hotel to be in such a location. Located down a back alley of mad old Delhi, this hotel is clean, centrally located for Old Delhi tourist sights, good breakfast included, rooftop gives a great view of Old Delhi. On the negetive the air con broken on the 2nd to last day and it didnt get fixed but there was a fan in the room. It was a bit noisey at times with hotel noise, i.e. sounded like furniture was always being moved upstairs. No natural day light in the room but from other hotels we stayed in in Delhi that is normal.
“Walking distance to Red fort and Sish Ganj Gurdwara”
My family stayed at this hotel and I had booked it online from Expedia. So, I am writing this review on their behalf. We had no problems in booking or any other kind. They really liked the place because of its excellent location. Staff was nice and well mannered.
“Good value for the cost”
The hotel staff was great and very accomodating. The food was ok if you like Indian food. I'm not a big fan and wished they had a bigger selection of western food, but what I had was good. The main problem is the entrance and the surrounding neighboorhood. You enter down a alley that is typical old Delhi. It's not very clean. In fact the whold area is Old Delhi and you'll see a lot of sights and smells that are not very pleasant. But once you get used to it...it may take a couple of days...it has a particular charm and flavor that you'll not find anywhere else. Chandi Chowk is just around the corner and you'll find a lot of bargain shopping at the local markets. Close to the Jama Masjid and Red Fort and only a walk away from the Metro. All in all it was a good experience and even though the hotel only has wi-fi in the lobby...they also have a computer there for guests to use... I thought it was a good deal for what I paid.
“Quality Economic Hotel in the Heart of Old Delhi”
The hotel is located in the heart of Old Delhi, easy walking distance to the Red Fort and Jama Masjid, and the Metro. The hotel is located down a small ally way in the bicycle district of Old Delhi. When we arrived around 1:00am in the morning it seamed very sketchy, but come daylight it really was not bad at all. We easily spend the day easily walking around Old Delhi, and to the close monuments, and the hotel is easy to find and get back to (once you know where it is). There is plenty of street food close by (and other food), and lots of activity and shopping in Old Delhi. The hotel is comprised of several rooms, the AC worked very well, and I can't tell you if the hot water worked because honestly it was so warm out side in mid June that a cool shower was very welcomed. Out of all the properties that we visited on our trip, this one was among the cleanest. The breakfast was also good, simple yet complete. The only issue was that they tried to claim that there were slippers in the room when we checked out that had gone missing. There were never any slippers, so I don't know if this was an honest mistake, or their attempt to get extra money out of us (but we never paid extra). If I ever come back to Delhi, I would consider staying here again.
“Clean with great service and delicious food”
Hotel Tara Palace is not in the greatest of locations (hidden in the alley way of a busy marketplace filled with low-middle class laborers...not a suitable place for a foreign woman to walk around at night), but it's truly an oasis inside. Spotless rooms with clean walls and linens, a well constructed bathroom and a comfortable bed with good pillows. Room service was prompt and friendly; the reception spoke good English and was very helpful. The food was good, the AC worked well and we had electricity during the whole visit (in March). For the price I paied it was a steal! Though the location wasn't particularly comfortable for a woman to walk around after dark, if you're in a pair it's so close to the metro (7 minute walk) and clean inside that it's well worth the compromise. I highly recommend the Palace for those trying to keep a tight budget while getting a quality staying experience.
“good hotel, not so great neighborhood”
The only problem with this hotel is that the location is very difficult. It's a pretty dreary neighborhood, not a lot around to see, very congested and trafficky, not very clean and a real hassel to drive in and out of. Once you're in the hotel all is okay, it's just the surrounding area that's not so appealing and doesn't offer much for travellers.
“The Jewel in the Landfill”
This hotel remains the jewel in the landfill: very sketchy alley entrance but once you're inside all is good. They arranged a driver for a day trip to Agra (good price) and then had our complimentary breakfast delivered before we left. On the last day (after we had checked out) we were tired of wandering the markets waiting for our late afternoon train departure. We jokingly asked if there was a pub nearby where we could have a beer. The front desk then asks the bellman to take us up to a vacant room and they serve us two beers! Again, after we had checked out! This hotel treated us well. Minor irritant: the hot water was only available for a short window in the morning, but such is the norm in India. No problems recommending this hotel to those who are not afraid to stay in the turmoil and commotion of Old Delhi.
“Our Best Stay in India”
Even after arriving 12 hours late, the front desk staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff was eager to help and the included breakfast delivered to the room was a nice service. We were happy to have a clean, quiet hotel after 3 weeks in India. One downside is the eagerness of the staff to enter your room whenever they come to the door, but this is a cultural thing that happens everywhere in India. There is wi-fi available, but you have to use it in the lobby. They claim to be a money changer, but it is just a man in the Chandi Chowk market who they call so see if he wants to change your money. If you have any other currency than USD or Euro (we live in Korea, and thus carry Korean currency) he will try to exchange at 75% of its value. The restaurant is convenient and 24hours, but definitely not the best food we've eaten. It does in a pinch, but there are so many good places in the market nearby, it is better to go there. The location is in a safe, alley way in the Old Cycle Market. It is a prime location for seeing the Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Chandi Chowk. It is not a touristy street, so you can safely walk around without the usual touts barking at you. Overall, I would recommend this place as a mid-range hotel that is a nice place to relax away from the craziness that is India. It is clean and comfortable, with accommodating staff. We would definitely stay there again.
“Great experience, cant wait to go back .'”
The staff was great, service was super, spoke very good English. The food was amazing. Be sure to try the Lemon Corriander Soup--amazingly Wonderful! I wish I had the recipe, I would love to have some right Now! The location is great for shopping and the Red Fort. Great views from thr terrace on the roof. Wonderful stay.
“A nice hotel, slightly dodgy location”
I stayed at Tara hotel for 2 nights. Airport pickup was included and the hotel driver was waiting for me where he said he would even though my flight was over an hour delayed. The hotel itself is nice - the rooms are a good size and mine was clean. Hot water is only between 6am and 11am daily, although they told me they can provide hot water at other times with 20 minutes notice, however my experience was that the water was not hot outside of those times even with asking. Breakfast is from 8am, and the is very slow - ring to get someone to come into the room as it is staffed unless someone is there. Lastly, the hotel is made of marble which is lovely but very, very noisy - bring good earplugs. The location of the hotel is very convenient for the red fort and Jama Masjid mosque, but the alleyway it is up is very tiny and feels a bit dodgy after dark.
