“Wonderful, quirky Lumen... life's too short for mediocre hotels!”
For the future, I've resolved to start making better, more conscious decisions regarding my travel accommodations... and my stay at Lumen counts as a screaming success toward that goal.
Nestled in a quiet suburban neighborhood, local associates told me that the building used to house a small, dingy chain hotel. Beautifully rehabbed, Lumen adds a wonderful, quirky little flair to everything aspect of a hotel stay. Euro-American style means a concierge-style check-in desk; cool, low-key lobby decor and restaurant; and the friendliest group of hoteliers -- from bell staff to housekeeping -- that you'll ever meet.
For about the same money as the business-traveler chains, Lumen offers an intimate room which is simultaneously avant-garde and welcoming... decorated with highly-styled furniture in rich, dark wood tones... no melamine here. Fluffy duvet bedding and a chair you can actually sit in make this a comfy hideout at the end of a challenging day of travel. Flat screen, DVD player, and the customary free Internet access round out the amenities.
And Lumen's designers have acknowledged that NOBODY wants to bathe in that dinky, dirty tub found in most rooms. In its place is a spacious glass-doored shower, with beautiful tile work and full-body spray jets; once again, function and style are proved NOT to be mutually exclusive.
I think we all owe it to ourselves to seek out fun, comfortable and right-priced lodging whenever and wherever we can find it, and Lumen fits the bill.
