Convenient to the railway station and within easy walking distance of the city centre - opera house nearby, old town a little further. Art nouveau district a little further. The room was comfortable and compact. Breakfast lacked grapefruit juice and the coffee wasn't that good. Front desk staff helpful. The hotel is served by the half hourly Air Baltic minibus from the airport, tickets available on line in advance.
Was well received and well looked after immediately. People make the difference and the staff was very nice to me. Thank you very much. Kristaps at front desk found out I was from Canada. My name is Albert and he immediately asked if I was from Alberta, when I answered yes he could not believe and we were friends thereafter.
The hotel is opposite a pleasant park with Oak Trees growing outside. It is in an up-market neighbourhood but only 20 minutes walk from the old town. Our rooms were very comfortable and amongst the largest rooms we have had at hotels in major cities. Each of our rooms had a balcony. They were kept very clean and the mini-bar regularly re-stocked. Wi-fi and airconditionning worked. There was an extremely good buffet breakfast with plenty of choice. At weekends breakfast goes on until 11am which is a plus.We sampled both a meal and driks from the bar and were pleased to have done so. The staff were very helpful, chasing up the airport about our luggage which had been mislaid.
The hotel certainly deserves its 4 star rating.

Stayed two nights. The hotel is nice. Our room was a bit querky. The windows were tiny and I mean tiny, you wouldn't want to be clostrophobic. But it was nice. It was a bit dusty the bed spread was a little grubby (sheets and duvet were fine).
Had a good sleep on the first night. The second night were kept awake by the guests next door. It was like the were in our room. We could hear everything! Called reception and eventually the called the room and it was fine after that. Had dinner there one of the nights and it was fabulous and the dining room is beautiful.
Breakfast had a good selection of food but service could be better I thought.
We'd enjoy our stay dispite being kept awake one of the nights.

My partner and I stayed at the Clarion Collection Hotel Valdemars in Riga. We were given a very warm welcome and quickly came to realise that the hotel's aim was to be like a home from home. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, who were extremely pleasant and happy to chat and answer questions. Added to this was the provision of tea and coffee all day long, as well as fresh fruit, an afternoon snack and an evening meal - at no extra charge. I found it to be a very relaxing stay. The hotel is conveniently situated about 10 minutes walk across a park to the Old Town. During our stay we visited the Russian Orthodox Cathedral, which is in the park and the Jewish Museum which is just around the corner from the hotel. There is a lot to see and this hotel was a convenient place to stay whilst we explored the lovely city of Riga.
The bed was very comfortable, the room was fine - not too hot - not too cold, and we slept very soundly. A refurbishment of the Reception and lounge/dining area had started on the day we left and as my only criticism would have been that some items of the furniture here could do with a make over, now that I know it's being done, I have no criticisms at all. We would recommend it and would be more than happy to stay there again.
The hotel building has an interesting story behind it of a family's escape during WW2, buried treasure and their eventual return to reclaim what was theirs. Go there and read about it yourself.
