“A great old hotel in the heart of Cheyenne”
My wife and I love old hotels and B&B's. The Plains Hotel didn't disappoint. The room was clean and comfortable. We had dinner in the lobby bar and grill and the steaks were excellent. Our only complaint, and the reason we rated the holel service a "3", was the 25-30 minutes it took to check-in after arriving. With only one registration person trying to answer phones, take reservations and check-in arrriving guests, the length of time it took to check in was annoying. Street only parking could be a hassel during the week, but on a Saturday night we didn't have a problem. We would definitely stay at the Plains Hotel again.
“Not impressed”
I was expecting a lot more for the price. Parking was two blocks away; the hotel sign was not quite visible. The room was very small with the sink in the bedroom area. There was a curtain on the window that snagged the bathroom door each time you used the bathroom. I would try a larger chain hotel if I were to visit the Cheyenne area again.
“Fun Hotel in the Wild West”
Stayed here for one night. Checked in late and was promptly greeted and given my room. Hotel has a unique charm to it. Would have liked to stay longer if I had the time. The only downside is that parking is on the street and is only 2 hours from 8am to 5pm. Had to park about a block away and walk with my luggage and things. Overall, I highly recommend it.
“Wyoming/South Dakota Adventure”
Just happened upon this most pleasant surprise. Exceeded our expectations in every way. Felt like we were living the old West past. The staff was superb.
“Very impressed”
It was really a treat to stay in a true hotel that is not your typical cookie cutter motel. This is an older hotel that has been refurbished and is very warm and inviting. I thought the bed was excellent but hubby though it was a little to hard. It wasn't. It has a very nice resturant although one time the service was a little slow but still very good. The rooms were not very big but seemed just right. Also had a fridge and a microwave. Very nice and they were very sensitive to the fact that we were there to be with a family member who was very ill and the let us check in at 4:30am. We had been on the road for about 12 hours and then had spent some time at the hospital. We needed a little down time and they were very gracious about letting us check in at an unusual time, which it didn't seem any of the chains were willing to work with us. Also very centrally located in Cheyenne so we could walk around and shop, eat or whatever. There is also an excellent Mexican resturant about half a mile east. Great food there. So if you want a hotel that has character, and class, give the Plains a try.
“Cheyenne--live steam”
If you're a railroad buff, you know that Cheyenne is home to a large Union Pacific rail yard. The historic station is amazingly large and elaborate for what is really a pretty small city. The fact that they keep a few steam locomotives there, and they get them out for exercise now and again is an added bonus. I found that out quite by accident when I heard the unmistakeable sound of a steam whistle as I was sitting in the depot plaza recently The area around the depot is well populated by shops and restaurants in historic buildings. I chose to stay in the Historic Plains Hotel, and enjoyed a view of the plaza as well as the ambience of a throwback to the past. If you want high-end luxe, look elsewhere. If you find the chains to be all too, well, chains, this is a great find. Downtown Cheyenne and the Historic Plains Hotel reinforce the good reasons to get off the Interstate and check out what's local and historic.
“Fun Historic Experience”
The hotel was very nice, bathroom was a little old and we had to ask how to turn on the showerhead. The coffee shop was wonderful and the lobby atmosphere was very fun!
“never again....”
terrible experience. besides the lack of on site parking, room was small, there was hot water half the time, front desk would not answer the phone, and the area was noisy most of the night.
“Disappointed in the city; not the hotel”
The hotel was quaint. The city wasn't what I expected; therefore, a little disappointed. They've done well to refurbish and maintain the antiquity of the hotel.
“Old and very dark and dank”
A old hotel with a very nice lobby. We had stopped by here last year and ask to see a typical room. Apparentl they showed us a suite because the room had when we stayed here was of very low quality. Bad neighborhood at night also.
