“Roy Johnson Chengdu experience.”

The hotel was just fine- the local smog was a problem. Service great, the room was good (Aircon took some working out). The windows were always open after cleaning which let in the smog- not nice. Breakfast was great- the service to get cabs was good too. I was not a fan of Chengdu- mainly because of the heavy smog. But I would certainly stay again in this hotel. We stayed in 5 hotels in 12 nights while in China and this had by far the comfiest bed. I can recommend the Panda research facility locally.

Hotel on River Side very nice, Hotel staff helpful and front desk people have good english. Room large by asian standards, clean nice room lacking in English TV channels BBC only. Older area but lovely river walkway alongside hotel. I will stay in this Hotel again.

“Disappointed, this hotel should be 1 star”

I would not recommend this hotel for anyone. The room was dirty. The carpet has spots everywhere. The towels has holes. They did not clean my from for 2 days because I was in the room when they came to clean. I told maid to came back to clean the room but they never did. Hardly anyone speaks English. It was very deficalt to communicate.

“Comfortable hotel dissapointing Reception service”

While the hotel was clean and comfortable I found the service provided by the Reception left a lot to be desired. Staff were young, English was not particularly fluent and it often took several explanations and changes in staff before we were understood. Even simple things like asking for a taxi to be ready for us at a given time seemed a difficult task for the Reception staff. They were often reluctant to offer help and we needed to ask on several occasions at times.

“Best Holiday Inn Express I've ever been in.”

I generally like Holiday Inn Express (HIE) because it provides all the important amenities at a very reasonable price. Stay ay Holiday Inn Exp Gulou Chengdu was the best HIE experience I've ever had. This 20-story HIE appears to be almost brand-new; quality of furniture including bed is very nice and modern. Business people like myself can stay always connected, as it provides both wired and wireless internet in room, and wireless in the public area of the hotel. As for breakfast, the buffet has more items than typical HIE breakfast. Of couse, you cannot expect them to be like those of 5-star hotels but still adequate-to-very good with a good mix between local and western cuisine. Moreover, the breakfast buffet is served in a full-featured restaurant (not in a booth as in typical HIE hotels) which serves lunch and dinner as well. The hotel appears to be centrally located and has two more large-size hotels in the neighborhood. In addition, hotel staff at the front and restaurant speak adequate English and try their best to take care of your needs. I would highly recommend Holiday Inn Exp Gulou Chengdu for all the business travellers in Chengdu.

The quality of the room is really superb: large, sunny, and clean. The hotel was built in 2009 and is really modern. The hotel is about 30-40 minutes from the airport by taxi, reasonably central location. The only issues is that the areas around are a bit shady: street shops, relatively dark, etc. But within 10 minute walk you are on a big street.

I definitely had a good stay, frontdesk staff were exceptionally helpful, everyone speak english and attentive.The rooms were excellent,hot/cold shower come on instantly and bed were comfortable.
