“Holiday Inn Charleston - Mount Pleasant”

The best Holiday Inn I have ever stayed at. One person told me it had been re-done w/in the past 2yrs, it is great. Location puts you w/in 10 mins or less from the French Quarter and in the other direction one can be at the beach in Isle of Palms w/in 15mins. Currently there is a lot of road construction going on in the area of the hotel but once that is finished the roads will be much better and in the mean time it doesn't cause much delay.

Area recommendations
Old Charleston/French Quarter. It is a rich historical area and there are many very good restaurants.

“Very convenient and comforting”

I was very satisfied with this hotel. The environment was comforting and the rooms were very clean. Also very convenient since it included a bar and a complimentary breakfast among other things. Location was just a few miles away from historic Charleston so that was also a plus as well. I would definitely recommend if you're on a budget but also enjoy quality.

Area recommendations
Definitely downtown historic district because that's basically where everything dealing with the roots of Charleston is located. Vast number of stores, tours, food and plenty of other activities for leisure.

“Enthusiastic Staff”

This is an extremely well situated hotel, convenient to everything in Mt. Pleasant and right on the bridge to Charleston - 10 minutes from either place. The staff was extremely attentive, helpful and enthusiastic. Each and every staff member greeted me with a smile and asked if I had everything I needed. The one drawback that I noticed was that we were on the top (5th) floor. Apparently right above us on the roof was the HVAC unit (or something?) that was continuously cycling off and on - which made it hard to sleep. Just something to watch out for. I would definitely stay here again, but ask for a room not on the top floor.

Area recommendations
Both Mt. Pleasant and Charleston are great cities to visit. The traffic is horrible though because they have now been 'discovered.'

“Why Holiday Inn?”

Nice pool and good service but I question why anyone would stay at a Holiday In after this experience. Every time I stay at a Holiday Inn Express, I get a nicer room with a fridge, microwave and complimentary breakfast for less cost. At the Holiday Inn there was no fridge, microwave and breakfast was extra all at a seemingly more expensive rate. On top of that, the water from the tap was warm and the room felt damp the entire time we stayed there. Over all it was ok but I would not recommend staying here when there is a newer, nicer Holiday Inn Express just a few blocks away.

“Holiday Inn Mount Pleasant - Great Staff”

This hotel is located in a great spot, just across the Cooper River from downtown Charleston and with easy access to all the sightseeing you might want in the area. The hotel itself was clean, and the staff (Abigail, Carrie and Leslie) were dynamite, real can-do attitudes and always ready to assist. In fact, it was Abigail who, over the phone, made sure we had a non-smoking room that made this hotel our first choice over many. Just proves that customer service isn't quite dead yet. Would make this hotel our first choice again if fortunate to revisit the Charleston area. Thank you!

Area recommendations
Definitely the historical sights of Charleston, with side visits to, notably, Magnolia Plantation and their swamp walk tour. Downtown just begs to be strolled about and photographed. The many art galleries, architectural delights, excellent seafood and local cuisine are bonuses, and if you are a history buff check out the many tours of forts, museums, etc. And since the downtown area is so compact you get to see a ton in a relatively short time. Definitely well worth the trip. We also did a side trip to Savannah (2 hours south?) and Myrtle Beach (the same distance north). Savannah? Great and worthwhile, but you can keep Myrtle Beach unless a typical beach resort destination is what you really want. But you can get that virtually anywhere.
When to go
Probably early spring or fall, perhaps even winter. Summer is hot and sticky, so if you want to walk a lot you will end up sweaty. Also, there are any number of local festivals and special events in the area, so do some homework before deciding on a date.
Getting around
Drive dowtown, park, and then enjoy walking about. We had several days, so had the luxury of not having to rush. Gave us a lot of time to soak up the atmosphere.
What to pack
Dress for the weather. We went in mid June and never got out of shorts, morning or night. Take a camera, for sure. But you can pack pretty light unless expecting cold weather. Really don't know what winter is like in Charleston.
Must see
Fort Sumter, Magnolia Plantation, the Confederate Museum and the old Exchange Building and its underground prison.
Shopping
Pleanty of touristy knick-knack shops plus gift shops at the museums, etc. Our hotel was right across the highway from a supermarket, several restaurants and a Starbucks, so we had all the "survival" gear close at hand. Plus, you can shop more contemporary shops along Meeting St. in downtown.
Dining
Lots of seafood and barbecue places abound, and both are excellent. Also, check out the local Gullah fare (ask for directions to Charlotte Jenkins' Gullah Cuisine restaurant in Mount Pleasant - you won't be sorry).
Outdoors or beach
Several local access beaches just up the highway at Isle of Palms, and Myrtle Beach is a fair drive north. It has a great, long beach with a water slide park and amusement park rides practically on the beach. However, it wasn't the experience we were looking for, although we met many families who had made this their vacation destination and intended to spend the whole vacation lounging on the beach.

“Solid, not great”

We were looking for a hotel to spend a quick night in Charleston, on a trip to visit the nearby beaches. The hotel is just across the Ravenel bridge from downtown Charleston and was easy to find. I had booked our rooms via Expedia. At first, the front desk did not give me appropriate credit for the meal deal we had purchased, but we got that resolved. The rooms themselves were clean and comfortable. Next morning, we had breakfast, which was OK and plentiful. We left right after breakfast. I'd stay there again and would recommend it but it would not be my first choice.

“great staff, convenient location and very nice hotel”

had a great stay...free parking and my daughter who lives in charleston stayed with me and left her car there for three days-no problem at all...in fact the maintenance man and a hotel clerk helped jump off her car when the battery died, and the maintenance man even put a new battery in for her! what service! very nice hotel for relaxing and swimming..nice patio by the pool, and nice bar area too!
