“Very tired rooms... needs a facelift”
An iconic local hotel deperately in need of a major facelift/renovation. The rooms and corridors were extremely shabby. However, a great central location next to downtown and the Millennium rugby stadium. I couldn't understand why the rate was so cheap, but once I went into my room I did...
“Great location”
The hotel is across the street for Cardiff Castle and in the city center. It's a historic building ungoing exterior maintenance (as of Jun 2011) with very weak air con.
“good hotel but needs refurbishment”
good comfortable hotel in need of some refurbishment - carpets were threadbare in lots of places. Reception Staff (only ever saw one) was very pleasant but at times overworked. Room was good
“Good Value for Money”
The location of the hotel is excellent (right in the middle of the city centre). The hotel lobby was impressive and our room was clean, comfortable and modern. The bathroom could have done with a little bit of updating but was clean.
“A Very Warm Welcome”
The receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful on arrival. The hotel is situated in a great location opposite the castle and we were given an upgraded spacious room, which was very comfortable.
“A good hotel for the price”
The only problem with the Angel is that it is one of Cardiff's oldest hotels, and though it has been refurbished to a good standard they haven't renewed the hotels windows. Hence, no double glazing. If you have a room facing the main roads it can be extremely noisy if your a light sleeper.
“Good hotel when watching the Rugby”
We stayed at this hotel as we were going to the Wales vs South Africa match. Hotel is only a few yards from the staduim and in the centre of town - there is also parking on a first come, first served basis. Hotel was great, room good and spacious with a roomy en-suite but... the room temperature was far too hot and the air conditioning wasn't working so in the middle of the night we both woke up feeling rather hot and sticky. The windows were all painted shut except for one but its sash cords were broken so we had to wedge it open! Generally the hotel looked a bit tired in places and could do with some redecoration and replacement carpets but considering its position near to the staduim and town we would definitely stay there again.
“Centre of Cardiff”
If you want an older style hotel bang in the centre , near to the cardiff arms park, milennium statium, shops and restaurants this is a good choice. Only ate breakfast in the hotel but that was very good, only one small complaint is that the bar service was very slow!
“Angel - Needs a refurb”
The Angel hotel isn't a modern hotel which is good an we expected creaky floorboards ect . The starircase in the lobby is beautiful, the problem seems to be with maintenance. We arrived and sat at the gate of the car park , the ticket machine which opens the gate doesn't work (no sign up to tell you), so we waited for 10 minutes before someone in reception looked at their screen and opened it for us. Receptionist was fine. On way to room noticed that the doors had barely any gloss paint left on them, around the handles which made the place look a bit run down. Got to the room, the curtains were red, then brown down the middle where they had faded, the pelmet had an inch of dust on the front of them. The light fitting had a shiny chrome fitting plate which was covered in the electricans fingerprints. The wallpaper round the light switch was torn. The bathroom..... The mirrorlight didn't work, the volume switch for the speaker didn''t work, there was black stuff around the bath and in the grout on the tiles. Although the toilet looked clean around the bottom of it you can see black so they obviously don't use bleach. General Hotel was OK, breakfast was OK, Reception was OK, it just needs a refurb or for them to fix things. And where they do fix them the must use a cheap form of maintenance as they are of poor quality (i.e. messy finish around the bath where they had smeared silicon over the mildew). I'd say the room also need a good clean. Location = excellent
“Great location”
Outstanding location. Opposite Cardiff castle, adjacent to Millenium Stadium. Hotel room excellent though a little small. Hotel breakfast excellent. Parking available at hotel so you don't have to pay extravagent parking fees that appear to be the norm in Cardiff.
