Probably one of the worst hotels I have stayed in.

Posted 12-Oct-2014
Pros: The towels were large and thirsty. If you could get them.
Cons: The hotel is a desperate need of a refurbishment. It is looking tired and dirty.
Location: parliment house is interesting and worth a visit. The war memorial is fantastic and should be on your list of things to do.
Arriving at the ibis style Canberra I was pleasantly surprised by how good the foyer looked. The check in person was friendly and polite. I was directed towards my room and things just got worse. Firstly it was difficult to find a parking spot as there were several busses taking up bays even though there was other spaces supplied for them. My room was on the second floor (no lift). The hallway carpets were stained and discoloured. Opening up my room I was met by a mouldy smell as though the room hadn't been used for a while plus more stains on the room carpet and generally untidy. The room itself was well sized and the bed was comfy. The bathroom was pleasent but nothing spectacular but one thing that stood out was loose leaf toilet paper (a visit to the local supermarket to purchase our own proper toilet paper was required). I was dissapointed after leaving the room at 9:00am with the sign clearly saying that the room could be made up and returning at 4:30pm to find that the room had not been made up. Even though the hallways were full of used sheets and towels in piles. Security is also an issue as a safe is not provided, the doors are only single locked with a key and the hall doors were left open during the night.

A basic hotel

Posted 10-Oct-2014
Hotel ibis is a basic hotel with comfortable beds and clean bathroom, the floor needed a proper vacuum. I wasn't sure if I staying at the ibis or the heritage, it felt like the take over wasn't complete.the addition of a lift would be a benefit with no official concierge carting luggage and small children upstairs wasn't ideal, the staff were helpful with this.overall the staff were helpful.the restaurant food was nice and came promptly

Big Ibis Suprise

Posted 01-Oct-2014
Pros: Quiet
Cons: Obviously you have only just taken over the property, give it the usual Accor look and it will be fine
Location: Central to where I needed to be
Very suprised to find a resort style Ibis. Especially quiet and I slept very well after having been in the Ibis on Pennabt Hills Rd, Sydney the night before

If it had the word "Motel" in it's name...

Posted 28-Sep-2014
Pros: Front desk staff were great.
Cons: I don't know how you improve poor architecture. I could hear everything the people upstairs were doing and had a terrible night sleep.
Hotel was quite expensive for what we got. It was basically a road-side motel. We booked because they said they had cot hire but when I tried reserving a cot for our stay after booking and was told they were subject to availability and I had to just turn up and see. (Everyone loves playing roulette with their holidays, right?) Front desk was super friendly and helpful though. He got someone to cover his post while he went and found a cot from a cancelled reservation for us. The room was clean and huge but very cold. The heater didn't seem to have the strength to combat the near zero temperature outside. We were on the bottom floor and could hear every time someone upstairs closed a door or flushed a toilet.

The staff were very friendly, helpful and cooperative. My wife was in Canberra for an operation and needed help with special meal preparation. The staff could could not have been more obliging.

Clean and well presented

Posted 19-Aug-2014
Pros: It was clean and tidy, The parking was central with the rooms in a u-shape around it so it didn't really matter if you couldn't park next to your room
Cons: The A/c unit was somewhat ineffectual.
Location: I was working in Woden so didn't really look around. The drive in to Woden was very easy and quick, even in rush hour.
Everything was good. The bed was a little firm but the bed linen was clean and crisp and I slept well. My only real critisism would be that the A/C was a bit feeble and even at maximum temp and output it only took the edge off the cold and heat could be felt only if one stood directly underneath it. I didn't try the WiFi so can't comment on that but from a colleague's experience it seems a little touch and go although I was assured it was working when I stayed there.

Reasonable location despite the inconveniences

Posted 18-Aug-2014 on Hotels.com
The very good service from the reception staff helped to make up for a less than satisfactory stay. This is a hotel undergoing renovations with poorly designed room door locks, a room air conditioner that did not work well, a non-functional telephone in the room and long cold corridors . Overall a functional place to stay and reasonably well placed, but I would look forward to seeing it after the renovations

Generally good room, slightly dated, great service

I stayed at the IBIS whilst in Canberra attending a business conference. I brought another staff member with me, so we stayed in a two bedroom apartment. Service wise we received lovely service from all the staff, breakfast was really nice and the service are was clean. Generally the apartment was clean, tidy and suitably furnished. We had only small issues. 1. The shower fitting was loose, so it was difficult to adjust the shower head to a suitable showering position. 2. There was only one reverse cycle air conditioner which was in the lounge area and did not seem to provide heat to the bedrooms. 3. The view from our back windows was across a car park which was piled high with garbage bags and building/renovation debris. We would stay there again, these issues were only very minor.
