Great accommodation for a family of 5.

Posted 26-Aug-2014
Location: We used the hotel as a base to travel to Stonehenge. It is also convenient to the city of Bath. There is a very good pub within walking distance.
We travel with a family of five and often have difficulty finding suitable accommodation. This hotel had a very spacious room with a double bed and three single beds that accommodated us perfectly. The room also had additional seating, tea/coffee in the room, a spacious bathroom with bathtub and shower and parking right outside the room. The hotel had a large indoor swimming pool which was very relaxing after a day of touring and provided a full English breakfast in their restaurant. The room was recently renovated and very clean.

Lovely country house hotel

The hotel is very country-house with original sitting rooms and a pretty conservatory and gardens. The breakfast was really good and serving staff very gracious.

Great hotel

Great hotel, very friendly and welcoming staff. It's very easy to get to the hotel but with being set back from the road you don't hear any noise. The room was quite big, very clean and had everything you would want or expect but it did feel a little dated. That said I would stay here again without hesitation

Relaxing night away

The staff were very helpful and the quality of food was fantastic. The hotel only lets itself down by being tired in some areas. In our bedroom bathroom the tray above the sink was rusting and the decor requires freshening up.

A country oasis away the bustle of Bath

A lovely place to stay and relax after a day sightseeing in Bath .When visiting Bath there is no need to suffer the traffic and parking , just walk 10 minutes to a bus stop and after 40 minutes you're in the centre of the city with no parking problems . The service was excellent and staff friendly . Evening meal was excellent although the wine a little expensive .We stayed in a nice room away from the main building ( No 10 ) which was quite spacious with all we needed .... toiletries and drinks making facilities . The grounds were pretty and there are walks by the canal nearby . The small pool was just around the corner so we were able to have a swim and dash back to the room to use our own shower ! Janet, the joint owner ,was charming and enthusiastic, and has selected interesting paintings for the hotel !Breakfast was good and served in the conservatory setting us up for the day . We certainly got much better value for money than staying in Bath !!

Great Bath alternative

Posted 27-Aug-2013
Pros: Staff were great. Food was very good.
Cons: Parts of the room (trim in the bathroom, paint on doors) look rather tired.
Great staff, very good food in the restaurant and a small, messy but adequate gym. would recommend this as a good alternative to staying in Bath.

Currently over-rated - no way is this a 4+ rating

Booked for a family stay. it definitely has character but for me it is a faded charm - we stayed in a converted barn - that seriously needs some updating - some cosmetic e.g. keys don't work well in locks, smell of cats wee when crossing the courtyard; and some more major such as the very uncomfortable beds, the confusions at meal times - particularly morning when nearly everybody got the wrong food and for some reason the 'eggs didn't poach that morning' and running out of baked beans etc etc. Space is a bit tighter than expected in the family room - the children's beds are pushed against the sold external stone wall which is part of the 'character' but in reality means they can be a) cold and b) very hard if children turn in the night and there is not enough room to rearrange. The heating is old and while we stayed in the summer (even then it felt cold at night at times) I would not like to stay in this room in the winter. The staff were friendly and I've stayed at worse but there is no way this is a 4+ rating- for the price of the rooms I would expect more and this is more of a 3/5 based on value. The restaurant in the evening also goes from the sublime to the ridiculous. The braised steak was superb, the recommended wine average to good and my daughters chocolate brownie was rock hard. The saving graces were the space around the hotel where the children could run and the swimming pool.

Pretty hideaway in lovely countryside

Nice staff, room comfortable. The gardens need a lot more love. Looked a bit neglected really. We dined in one and though the meal was ok we felt the chef was over ambitious. Keep it simple. Oerall a positive experience.

Lovely hotel in a good setting; good food and service; swimming pool a little disappointing, particualry the changing rooms which are more like school changing rooms of 30yrs ago than a good quality hotel; showers in changing rooms also poor with no shower gel etc.
