"Melvin Country House ticks all the boxes. The moment we arrived we felt at home with a very friendly greeting from Martin and a pot of tea. As it was a Sunday the restaurant wasn’t open but he helped us out with a place to go for winner and drinks, even offering to drive us. "Its an old country house, with lots of character and interesting antiques and wall hangings. The rooms are of course old, and the furniture is to say the least well used, as are the fixtures and fittings in the rooms and bathroom. Nothing was not working, so functionally it was well maintained. For us, the carpet, curtains and fittings would be improved by a thorough cleaning, but that is not to say it was dirty. "It was a beautiful location. The cottages are well equipped. There was a bit of a musty smell. I think that could have been the carpets in the bedrooms and sitting area. Wooden floors would be more hygienic. Having the hotel so close was the effect for the leisure centre and bar! A great weekend all considered and I will be back!"
