Dining
Trocadero - This is the hotel's main restaurant. Wooden tables and chairs with green upholstery combine with a gray marble floor and a 1970s style central fireplace to provide a modern, informal setting. It is open 24 hours for light meals, and serves an American buffet breakfast (surcharge), lunch, and dinner by candlelight. The menu features international and Greek cuisine, and the signature dish is a Greek specialty: Stuffed Cabbage Leaves with Minced Lamb and Egg Lemon Sauce.
Regatta Bar - Open all day for drinks and snacks, the Regatta Bar is decorated in blue and the walls are hung with pictures of sailing boats to give a Yacht Club ambience. Four small TV screens are set into the wall and there is live piano music in the evenings. The bar also offers a selection of cigars.
Atrium Cafe - This cafe is open all day for coffee, tea, and light snacks. It is located in the lobby, with tables outside in the courtyard garden - weather permitting. There is also a small Sushi Corner serving Japanese specialties at a bar with stools.
La Veranda - This rooftop restaurant operates from May to October by the open-air pool, with views of the coast up to Piraeus. It is arranged with wooden tables and wrought iron chairs with cream cushions, and serves light meals and snacks during the day, plus dinner at night. The menu features Italian cuisine and barbecued meat and fish dishes.

“Satisfactory - the Bar has gone!”
overall fine and a good location for Piraeus meetings - the bar has gone and the replacement has little atmosphere. i seriously object to being charged € 4.50 for a small bottle of water in the room - ridiculous price and the check out man looked rather embarrassed giving me the bill (which is saying something for a Greek).
“It's a decent 4*”
I used to always stay here in the early 2000's and it was a nice experience. Clean, everything seemed new. It seems nothing has been done since in upgrades. Carpets need replacement. Tub and sink, although of good quality materials and clean, are showing their age. A "queen" bed for a "5*" hotel is unacceptable to be made of 2 singles pushed together!!! Taxis always available outside, very convenient. Very good easy acces to Faliron and to the city, for business people. Bar staff on rooftop bar very attentive and friendly. Poor selection of wine at the bar (only one red, one white, only by the glass!!!!). No draught beer. Inadequte for a 5*. Evening city view blocked by blinds (!) when sitting at the bar... It's no better than a decent 4*. Not a 5 star, especially for the money. Sorry.
“Metropolitan Hotel, Athens, Greece”
The Metropolitan Hotel is very nice and the staff is very accomodating and helpful. It is, however, quite a ways from central Athen. The hotel has an hourly shuttle bus to central Athens, but sometimes runs a smaller bus at times, like the last two return runs of the day. One run could not take everyone who wanted to use the bus. The hotel prices for food and drink are excessive. The surrounding neighborhood is mostly residential with a few restaurants, a few shops and a Carrefour store. The hotel does exchange money. Internet is not free and seems to be sold in blocks of one hour or 24 hours. The hour block is an hour at one time, not 60 minutes to use when you wish. The hotel seems to be popular with many tour groups, but seems somewhat understaffed for the breakfast buffet rush.
“Metroplolitan Hotel Nov 2011”
The Metropolitan is a basic hotel and is fine for a night or two on a business trip or an overnight stage on a holiday. Would not recmmend it for a holiday in Athens.
“Avoid if possible”
The room wasn't clean, linens the first night were old with holes, toilet in the bathroom constantly running and inspita my 5 attempts to notify the management I gave up. Rooms not soundproof. Neighborhood not conducive for street parking. On the positive side, attractive lobby and restaurant (Trocadero) good for breakfast, the shuttle bus service to the center.
“Not impressed”
The hotel was certainly 5 star. The staff were not helpful and gave me the feeling of old and grumpy people working. The bath tub was moldy and gave the pungent smell. Will not go back again to this hotel. It probably qualifies for 2.5 star.
“It is nice, but there are more hotels to choose from that are closer to the center”
We stayed at the Metropolitan on 2 separate occasions on our trip. Both times, I got the same opinion of it. The people are nice enough and the service is fine. The hotel, allegedly, is going through carpet updating. They need to finish that quickly. The reason I say this is that the carpet never looks clean. In our first room, it was dark and looked very dirty. In the room that we got the 2nd time around, the carpet was newer, but still not fantastically clean. The biggest issue I have is that it is 15 minutes by shuttle (that the hotel provides for free at certain times of the day) to the city center. The shuttle is great, but it runs on their time, not yours. In other words, you are at the mercy of the shuttle. Of course, one could get a taxi, but why? If you wanted to stay closer, you should have done this. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate this hotel. It has free wi-fi in the lobby and a decent, if over-priced breakfast. The issue for me is that if I am going to spend money on a hotel, I better like it and I need to stay closer to the city so I can walk to the city center. Because of the group tour, this hotel specializes and suits the needs of groups going to the center of the city and on cruises. Look around for another hotel. If you cannot find one, this go with this one. If you can find another one, and this site and others give it a better rating, book that one instead!
