“Very nice and very expensive”

Our stay at the King George Palace met all of our expectations. Beautiful hotel in a great location on Syntagma Square. Walking distance to most of the sites in Athens. The view of the Acropolis from the restaurant on the 7th floor is breathtaking. The price tag for a meal for two with 2 glasses of wine and tip was around $200, so we only ate there once. If you want to stay in a grand old hotel, you will not be disappointed. However, if you want to save money there are other hotels nearby that might meet your needs at a lower price.

Area recommendations

When in Athens don't miss the Acropolis, the adjacent Agora, Temple of Zeus, Hadrian's Gate, new Acropolis Museum. The National Archaeological Musuem is fantastic but requires a minimum of several hours to see, you could easily spend several days here if you want to spend time at each exhibit. Strolling thru the Plaka for souvenir shopping and stops at tavernas for food and drinks is a pleasant way to spend your time. We took the Athens City Tour Bus, good for 2 days with a hop on and off option that allows you to move around Athens very easily. Bus runs every 30 minutes and has a audio guide in several languages. Cost 15 Euro per person but we found a 2 Euro discount coupon in the Attica Maps available in most hotel lobbies.

“AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF FIVE STAR SERVICE”

Breakfast on the balcony has a view of the Acropolis. Internet in your room's included, which is good. The staff are friendly and helpful and work to a genuine five star standard. It's a good place, let's hope the debt crisis doesn't completely destroy it.

“Athen's Best Hotel!”

If I knew how good this hotel was going to be, I would have cut short my time on the islands and stayed longer at the Classical King George Palace. The location is in the best part of Athens. Right in the heart, next to Syndagma, their parliament house, near Plaka, Monastiraki, shopping district and ofcourse the Acropolis. Staff were very friendly and most helpful. We were "blown away" by our luxurious room, and the little things like the bed turning, complimentary chocolates and wine on arrival. Wonderful view of the Parthenon from their restaurant too. Extremely good value for money! I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Athens.

Area recommendations

The heart of the city is definitely the best place to stay because it offers most of the tourist attractions and shopping, all within close walking distance.

“breakfast doubled its worth”

really nice hotel. not modern, "classical" so don't get bent out of shape if it isn't the four seasons. the breakfast was FABULOUS and the view made the price of the hotel worth it and more. concierge was on/off depending on his mood but at the end of the day i got what i wanted/needed. don't go for the pool it is 2 levels below ground and deep, small kids can't stand up. location right next to subway so very convenient and don't worry about the demonstrations, the square was a little beat up but not menacing. enjoy!

“Great Athens Hotel”

If you can afford it, this is a great hotel to use as a base whilst holidaying in Athens. Staff are very helpful, especially the doormen (brilliant). Super breakfast and the breakfast staff were great.

Getting there

Airport Express bus X95 is better than subway (too many pickpockets in/around the subway). The bus terminus is in front of the hotel in Syntagma Square. This Airport Express also has its departure point at Syntagma Square across from the Hotel.

“Faintly disappointed”

Reputedly one of the top hotels in Athens, the Classical King George Palace left me slightly disappointed. The room was split into two areas, but would have functioned much better as just one. The wifi worked well in only one of the two areas. The bed and pillows were both too soft. The furnishing was just not very elegant or practical. But the location is excellent.

Dining

Unless you are keen on an exclusive diet of Greek food, avoid tavernas.

“Luxury and Convenience”

Have previously next door at Grand Bretagne and this one is even better. The staff kindly upgraded us to a King Suite - fantastic room. The restaurant has stunning Acropolis view - and the breakfast buffet is the best I have encountered. Swimming pool tiny, also has suana and steam room - thankfully nobody else wanted to use them. This is a truly luxurious hotel, right in the centre of Athens. Fantastic!

Area recommendations

Try to stay very close to Syntagma - Parliament Building square. It is in easy walking distance of restaurants, museums, shops and Acropolis.

Getting around

The metro system is great - much less stressful than trying to get a taxi. However, we only needed metro for airport trip as all else was done on foot.

Must see

Not on the top of most agendas but walk up Lycabettus Hill. It is much higher than the acropolis and has a stunning view all around the city, including off to the sea. In hot sun it will be a tought walk - but but give it a go.

“Great Location Right on Syntagma Square!”

Very elegant hotel near the Plaka and within easy walking distance of the Acropolis and the new Acropolis Museum. We stayed here for three nights and thought the rooms/bathrooms were big and that King George Palace definitely deserves it's 5-star rating, although the hotel hallways are beginning to show some wear. Breakfast buffet has everything and it's so cool to sit at your breakfast table and have a great view of the Acropolis.

Area recommendations

The Plaka is fun to explore and is right next to the Acropolis.
