“The location is ok but the hotel NOT 5 Stars as claimed”
There is not too many good things I can say about the Classic Athens Imperial Hotel apart from the super fast and FREE WiFi available in most parts of the hotel. The hotels location is actually quite good since an Athens subway station is just across the street where you will also find many taxis cued. If you seek traditional Greek cuisine, the "Alexander the Great" restaurant is just opposite the hotel's front door. It's unfortunate the hotel's impressive exterior does not match it's interior...the innards of the hotel badly needs a serious makeover. The carpets are old, walls drab, bathrooms less than spotless with towels looking like you are at least the 100th person to use them. Most of the hotel staff at the reception and lone restaurant tried their best to provide good and friendly service but having traveled extensively all over the world I must say this hotel is at most a 3-Star and most assuredly not a 5-Star establishment. Lastly, although the hotel's website touts an unobstructed view of the wold renowned Acropolis/Parthenon, the roof deck from which this would be available was closed due to the "cool Athens temperature from 1st Nov to end of Winter" and accessible for only "5 minutes" upon request from the front desk when accompanied by a hotel security staff. Alas, my family and I are certain to select some other hotel the next time we visit Athens.
“Good hotel and close to tourist attractions”
All the hotels we saw in Athens had very plain exteriors including this one. However, once inside the Classical Imperial was really quite attractive. Great dining and lounging area. Morning breakfast could not have been nicer. Staff were always ready to help and made good suggestions. Would definitely go back as the price was very reasonable and the site was close to tourist areas.
“Would definitely stay again”
We stayed in this hotel for four days in August 2011. The hotel is within walking distance to Omonia located on Karaiskaki Square and is in a run down area of Athens. Although we felt perfectly safe, it was disconcerting to see on several days that fully armed police with (snarly) dogs had parked their cars in front of the hotel, as if expecting trouble. It is in a great location if you are using public transport as the Metaxogourgio train station is right across the street, or if you had suitcases, you could go across the square to the elevators leading to the train station. Syngama Station was only three very fast stops away... The hotel is very nice, but is fairly old and could do with a little love and care. Our room was a nice size, with a very comfortable king size bed and a good sized bathroom, and we took advantage of the free WiFi. However, the block-out curtains had become weather worn and had torn in a couple of areas, and actually got stuck and we couldn't open them on our last two days there. Unfortunately, the windows were filthy, which seemed to add to the depressive view outside. The service could not be faulted and nor could the breakfast buffet which apart form the normal foods also included things such as pancakes with maple syrup as well as the greek delicacy, loukoumades. There is a roof-top pool which was fantastic in the August heat, as well as a bar and a lovely view of Athens and the Parthenon.. and a good restaurant across the street.
“Loved it. Would definitely stay there again.”
Literally a block away from the metro station which makes it super convenient to get to the main tourist attractions. A really comfortable, clean, nice looking hotel for a great value. Toiletries provided. Awesome gyros across the street. Gorgeous rooftop with pool and bar/restaurant that provides a stunning view of the Acropolis at night. What more could you ask for? Would totally return if I make it back to Athens.
“Not Impressed”
The staff at this hotel are fantastic. The location leaves a lot to be desired especially in the evening. The room was ok but a set of net curtains would be appreciated as the room was overlooked by private residential flats, the curtains had to be closed when in the room. There were no tea coffee making facilities in the room. This is not a negative report on the hotel, all of the staff at every level were fantasic and did all they could to make the stay enjoyable, it is the location that is debatable, use of the subway is recommended rather than walking to the city centre, especially at night.
“a very pleasant 7 days...”
We spent a week at the classical Athens hotel and it made for a great abode... The hotel was pretty modern and had all the amenities. The staff was very courteous and all our requests were accommodated in a timely manner. The housekeeping staff did an excellent job of maintaining the room. The roof top pool was very nice with great views of the acropolis. The breakfast buffet was yummy... The hotel was kid friendly and our 9 mo old had a wonderful time. We had an absolute wonderful time and hope you do too...
“Greece”
Hotel was nice but in a bad part of town and not close to any of main tourist attractions. The bar closed early as well. I had to take the metro everyday to get to the main areas.
“Great hotel for Athens city break”
The Classical Imperial Athens hotel was fantastic value for money. I wouldn't classify it as a 5-star but definitely is a 4-star. The rooms were great - bathroom was huge with separate bathtub and shower. The service was outstanding. Staff helped to book tours, provide transport information, provide additional pillows and even bandaged my hand after I cut it in the metro. Breakfast at the hotel is superb with a large variety of foods to choose from. The hotel also had happy hour, buy one get one free drinks which we abused most evenings. Only disappointment was that the rooftop pool was closed when we were there, but I assume that has to do with the time of year (April). Such a great trip!
“Great Hotel”
Just got back from Athens, stayed a week. The Hotel upgraded us as it was my birthday, gave us ice for our own champagne and a complimentary bottle of wine plus fresh fruit and nuts to go with the champagne. They couldn't do enough for us. The breakfast buffet was fantastic and the restaurant service and food quality was excellent too. Try the greek specialities, no more expensive than downtown. The only downside to the Hotel was that the pool wasn't open and neither was the terrace just to be able to chill. The area isn't that great but as another recent reviewer added the whole of Athens had some very dodgy people around, as long as you are sensible its no problem. We didn't rate the food in the restaurant across the road but it was cheaper and all our food came at different times. If you are there for a few days you can buy a ticket which will last a week for 14 euros which you can use on any of the transport in and around Athens. The port of Pireus was grotty so don't waste your time going there, unless you catch a boat from there to another island, Aegena was nice and about an hours trip. My favourite trip was to Lake Vouglameni [40 mins on bus] which is a salt water inland lake, where you can swim and the fish nibble the dead skin on your toes. The Parthenon and Olympic stadium were my favourite city sites.
“Good hotel but not a 5 star”
The hotel is in a very convenient location for all major sights in Athens. Metaxourghio metro station as well as the sightseeing bus stop are only across the road. The service is nice and friendly, all hotel staff is very polite. The food was fresh and good quality. This hotel is a very good undisputed 4 star. As a 4-star, I couldn't possibly fault it but it is definitely NOT a 5-star hotel and should be regraded. Please, don't pay too much attention to reviews that say the surrounding neighbourhood is dodgy. The whole of Athens is pretty dodgy and you will be hard pressed to find anything that's not surrounded by graffiti plastered derelict buildings unless you stay in the Grande Bretagne on the Syntagma Square but you should be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for that. The main thing is if you are only planning to visit Athens, I would suggest you make it a long weekend, otherwise, plan for other things to do. Going back to the hotel, the only downsides I could mention were the rooms are poorly dusted and the decor is a bit dated. Other than that, if you accept it as a 4-star, it's pretty good. It has free wi-fi and very friendly helpful service.
