Central location luxury

Posted 18-Nov-2013
Pros: comfortable hotel good central location
An amazing building, perfectly located in the historic centre of Alcala which is a wonderful little town to wander around. Stayed here on business and was glad we had some time to have a look around the town which was only possible because of this location. The hotel itself is exactly what you need for any type of stay, clean, comfortable, helpful staff, a nice little bar for a quiet evening drink, good restaurant and the breakfast buffet was so good we didn't need to stop for lunch. Good large rooms with a walk in wardrobe and most importantly a HUGE shower so you don't bang your elbows or get attacked by a shower curtain. The only downside is that because of the layout of the rooms (open plan basin & shower area), if you need to get up in the night for a glass of water, you can't turn on just a light in the toilet (which is in a separate room) without turning all the bathroom area lights coming on which could disturb your partner if they are a light sleeper.

Perfect short break

Posted 23-Oct-2013
Pros: The mix of old and new that is the essence of staying in a Parador
Cons: Perhaps a kettle to make tea/coffee? But there is a stocked mini bar in the room
Location: Visit the home of Cervantes (who wrote Don Quixote), the beautiful old university quadrangles and buildings. Great cafes and restaurants
20 minutes from Madrid airport this historic university town is an oasis of art, history and calm. A regular and cheap train service to Madrid means you can enjoy the city if you want but appreciate the authentic Spanish experience in the small but perfect town of Alcala de Henares. This is the best hotel in town - great facilities, perfect location, fabulous breakfast - couldn't ask for better.

Stayed in Alcala to visit daughter at university

Posted 21-Oct-2013
Pros: Everything - would return and recommend
Cons: Would have liked a kettle in the room for a cuppa
Location: Very easy to get the regular and cheap train to Madrid and only 32 Euros for taxi from Barajas Airport
Perfect location in historic part of this beautiful town. The Parador is that great Spanish fusion of traditional and contemporary. The rooms are modern and fully equipped - the lighting is especially funky. The older public areas are beautifully restored and exude a gentle calmness. Food and staff are both great

Not your typical Parador

Posted 27-Sep-2013 on Hotels.com
Not what you'd expect of a Spanish Parador. The building may be an old convent but you'd easily overlook that fact because of the ultramodern renovation inside. It is an excellent quality hotel with parking available underground for 20 euros a night, which seems to be the average rate. Not a far stroll t the pedestrian street in Alcalá. Would definitely stay again.

Great location and modern room

Posted 24-Aug-2012 on Hotels.com
I just stayed here last week with my family for one night before flying out of Barajas the next day. Parking was easy in the garage and not too expensive. The town is very cute and immediately surrounding the hotel. There is a nice pool which closes at 9pm and great dining options in the hotel if you don't want to search for food in the town. We had two rooms for one night but found the rooms clean and accommodating. They even had a crib and baby toy waiting for us which was helpful. Our only challenge was the lighting in the room which was on preset dimmers making it hard to isolate lights once the baby had fallen asleep. Perhaps we weren't using them the right way but it was annoying. I wouldn't imagine this would be a challenge unless you had kids sleeping in the room. It is a 20 minute drive from the airport and signage was confusing so leave extra time if you plan on flying out from the airport after your stay. The staff was helpful with directions and located a nearby 24 hr gas station for us too. Overall it was a good value for the room and a pleasant stay.

Great Location

Posted 09-Jun-2012 on Hotels.com
This hotel far exceeded all of our expectations. The staff was welcoming and helped us navigate through a foreign country. The hotel itself is beautiful not far from Madrid by train. We had staid in Madrid on a past trip and it is very expensive, very busy and this was more restful to just take the train in to see the sites.
