This is a very nice motel once you find it. Most of the streets on this island are unmarked, so getting around was hit and miss. We just got off of a cruise, and they were so kind to let us check in at 12:30. The rooms are very clean and large. The first night we had no soap or shampoo, so I figured they just didn't do this (different country.) The next day, however these items were placed by housekeeping. King bed was very comfortable. They require you to turn in your key each time you leave the motel, and this seemed a little strange to me. The only room that is air conditioned is the bedroom. The front room was pretty hot in spite of two fans going full speed. The only TV in the room is in the front room, so you either sit in the heat and watch TV or sit in the bedroom doing nothing. There is a beautiful 2nd floor patio you can use, but it was too hot there to be really comfortable - even in the evening. Some people have said this motel was in a bad area of town, but I think that most of the island is questionable except if you spend some big bucks at one of the resorts.
"No car needed for tours. Close to cruise ship pier"
Seaview is in the middle of Philipsburg and walking distance to restaurants, stores and beach rentals.
Three tours where they picked me up within walking distance of Seaview are listed below. I was by myself so they combined me with a group.
1)Bernard's island tour with beach $45 US. 2)Tiki Hut snorkeling park $51. 3)Coconut Reef surfing school, $69.
95% of the town closes as soon as the cruise ship leaves. No night life. No ship= empty town. The only thing open is McDonald's (10am-11pm daily) and the taxis.
The ATM machines ($3 fee) are in the police station/water taxi building on the beach, almost directly across from Seaview. The entire island will accept US dollars, but you need cash, not credit. My travelers checks were useless.
The bus to Maho Beach is $2. Walk through any alley to Back Street, which is 1 block from Front Street. There are no bus stops, so wave your arms when you see a van with a "Maho" sign on the windshield. Say good morning to the passengers and tell the driver where you want to go. The busses were plentiful in the morning and safe. I only waited 2 minutes going and 5 minutes coming back. Returning to Seaview is easy. Stand above the roundabout where you were dropped off and catch the bus that say's "Philipsburg".
Seaview has breakfast for $5. 2 eggs, 3 sausages, 3 pancakes, bacon...pick 2 for $5. Breakfast room and ice machine is hidden. Ask the front desk.
In St Maarten, no one smiles, but then go way out of their way to help.

The Joshua Rose Guest House is not a palace, but wants to be a palace, The staff acts like they are servicing a palace. Nadia, the manager, and her staff are are also a credit to the great friendly wonderful people of St. Maarten. Friendly? It is easy to become a welcome part of the family that runs the guest house.
Guidance was also available for all the wonderful things about the island.
You can rent a car, but bus (jitney) service is right outside the door to everywhere on the island.
I will try to go back there and do recommend the guest house to all my friends.
