High Rhine Romantic Holidays

My experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing from the moment I arrived. I arrived from London at around 12:30 pm after a long and exhausting journey. Although check-in was at 3:00 pm, I was asked to pay an additional CHF 40 simply to access my room earlier instead of waiting in my car. After such a long journey, I found this charge very disappointing and unreasonable. The parking situation was another major issue. I was charged CHF 40 for parking, yet there was no clear information about this charge on the hotel’s website when I made my booking. Even worse, on the second day there was no parking space available for my car, leaving me with no choice but to park outside the hotel despite having paid for parking. The housekeeping was also far below expectations. The bed sheets were not changed daily, and the level of cleanliness was disappointing. I have photographs documenting the condition of the room. There were also no tissues provided in the bathroom. What made the stay even more disappointing was the lack of a proper indoor area for guests to sit and relax in the evening. The only place available was outside the hotel, which is not what I expected from a hotel of this standard. Overall, I feel that I paid additional charges for services that were either poorly provided or not consistently available. The first thing you notice about the property is it's location in the old town area of Basel. The next thing you notice is the beautiful view of the homes and businesses in the old but magical looking buildings. It just gets better from there. The staff great you immediately as you enter reception and pleasantly help you to get your room information. If you dropped of your luggage before the room was ready, like we did, when you come back to get your key, you find your luggage is already in the room. That was just our first afternoon. The room we had is small, but if you have traveled in Europe before, that is pretty normal. The room was on the upper floor and our windows, all faced the Rhine River, which was great. It proximity to old town mad it convenient to walk everywhere, and we did. Love this place and the staff. I would love to see it in winter during Christmas. I hope you consider this property for your stay in Basel.
