This was my second attempt at booking somewhere nice to stay in Visby, at sadly it wasn't much better than the one that I had cancelled last minute on arrival. Thankfully I was only here for two nights, and the positives were that it was in a good position, fairly quiet area, and close to the Destination Gotland terminal for a very early start back to the mainland. On the plus side, the breakfast was good. Though the room was big, and I like being at the top of the hotel with the velux windows, the layout was odd, and generally everything lacked practicality. I was lead to believe in the description of my room, that I was in a newly renovated annexe, but I am not sure 'newly' was that new. The furniture was scruffy and a bit dirty, the bathroom was tiny, and the bedding just didn't smell that fresh - yuk! There was also no evidence that a maid had been in to make my bed, empty the bins etc. as you would usually expect in a hotel. The building was very historic, and the staircase was stunning, but I feel more could have been done to make the entrance etc. more inviting and feel more 4*, as allegedly it was. Outside, there were multiple dead plants in pots, the stone steps weren't just worn, but badly kempt, and on entering there was the smell of a cheap, plug-in air freshener. On the whole, very disappointing...
