Grenada
Grenada is very close to my heart as it’s the home of my Granny who migrated back there five years ago. I had the pleasure of visiting Grenada two years ago and I enjoyed my time, but three days wasn’t long enough. I definitely plan to return with my family! I stayed at one of the hotels I’m recommending called True Blue Bay Resort. This hotel has everything you need on site. It’s a boutique hotel that is family-friendly and accessible with so much colour and uniqueness. You can choose to stay in a villa, suite or regular room, offering options for everyone. The size of the hotel is very impressive and it has different areas with a different theme, so it doesn’t feel like you are in the same place. The restaurant overlooks the water which creates a nice calming ambience. They even have caddies onsite to take you around, instead of the stress of being on your feet. You can never get bored as there are plenty of activities on site for both adults and children. From water sports, spa, cooking classes to rum and chocolate tasting - Grenada is very well known for its cocoa! At night, True Blue Bay host events where you can hear the latest club bangers, or the local Grenadian calypso music, so be sure to dance the night away, safely.
Secret Harbour is the ultimate paradise with its swimming pool, tennis court and private beach. It also has two restaurants, so if you don’t feel like leaving the hotel, this is perfect, plus it has a cocktail bar on site. I suggest you try a rum punch! Guests can stay in the cottages which look amazing! They have direct access to the beach, a jacuzzi, plus stunning views. Secret Harbour is more of a tranquil hotel and is great for couples or solo travellers to escape the noise and have a relaxing stay.
If you get a chance to explore, I recommend hiring a car and exploring the island. Grenada has plenty to offer. Check out the beautiful waterfalls, the Belmont chocolate factory restaurant which serves delicious traditional Grenadian food, or keep it local and visit a smaller chocolate factory in St. George’s called the House of Chocolate Grenada Museum. And if you fancy a cocktail, head to Esther's bar, it’s popular amongst the locals and that’s always a good sign wherever you go in the world!
Nigeria
Lagos is a second home for my family and me. My husband is Nigerian therefore we spend a lot of time going back and forth between London and Lagos. There are plenty things to do and explore in Lagos, especially during the holiday season in December. The vibe is great and there are so many events and parties. This usually means a lot of people, but you will never get bored. Lagos has so many hidden gems waiting to be explored and even I haven’t discovered them all yet.
Maison Fahrenheit is an awesome place to stay in Lagos. I visited two years ago as I was on a shoot, and we were using the hotel as the location. It’s a boutique hotel which has a swimming pool, tennis, volleyball and basketball court, and an amazing rooftop, with great views overlooking the Eko Atlantic. Located in Victoria Island, the hotel is very central to most things on the island, with plenty of nice restaurants in the area. Some of my favourite restaurants are Nok, The Garden in Ikoyi, Circa and Black bell for when I’m on the go.
Eko Hotel and Suites is a very large hotel – I’m dreaming of staying here as I love the look of the décor and interior, it’s very modern. It has nine restaurants on site, serving a wide range of food. I love a hotel with a gym as it’s great way to start the day, plus you literally don’t need to leave as it also has a spa and hair and nail studio. But if you are like me and like getting out and about exploring, some of my favourite things to do are head to the beach. Try Landmark - it is well known in Lagos. It’s clean, has great atmosphere and plenty of beach clubs to choose from. For those looking for a chill but social vibe, check out Sip and Paint. You can drink some wine, get creative and leave with a piece of art!
