WGippsland Gem Accessible AccommodationAs a disabled person, I was very impressed with my recent stay at Gippsland Gem located in Yallourn North, Victoria. This is because it’s very hard to find accessible accommodation where the advert description actually matches the disabled amenities when you turn up. This stunning 4 bedroom rural property has been designed to cater for both regular families and guests, and for those who like me, are disabled. The house is very spacious with room for everyone, in fact it even has a separate self-contained unit with bathroom and kitchenette for the disabled guest’s carer, if not a member of the family staying in the main house. The bathroom has been planned out well for a disables guest with a spacious walk-in shower and all the usual safety handles and equipment saving you bringing your own, such as a shower chair for example. In the accessible bedroom, the bed is the Hi-Lo type of adjustable home care bed, similar to my own at home, plus for those who require a freestanding hoist with sling, this is also available. The property has great access inside and out – including the viewing deck – with all floors on the level and ramps outside where applicable. I can certainly recommend that the set up at Gippsland Gem is wheelchair friendly. The property in set in a peaceful location with stunning views in every direction, yet only a 7minute drive into the main centres of Moe and Traralgon is 15-20minutes drive shopping and restaurants.
