Could park for free outside property which was a real plus. Love the way place is decorated. Very comfortable large room, good bathroom and kitchen area. We had ground floor Maddox room and we found there was very little noise from Asda/outside. The only noise is the creaking floorboards from the upstairs room but then it is a very old building was part of the quirkiness of the place. The noise issue is made very clear before booking and wasn’t a real issue for us as was quieter than we anticipated - there were ear plugs provided. We stayed in the Fleming room on the ground floor. Ear plugs were provided which were useful. Instructions of where to park was unclear. A picture of the parking area wold have been very helpful. Room was clean and bed very comfortable. There were pots,plates etc But no knives, forks or spoons ? Shower screen was off its lower rails and could not fix it. Noise from Asda loading bays was loud but fully expected so not a real issue. Wondered what the ear plugs were for ? Lovely properly tucked away behind some shops. Only a couple of niggles, it didn’t spoil our stay though. We were on the ground floor so unable to leave the windows open at night for some fresh air, it was quite hot at night. It could do with a fan during hot weather. The TV wouldn't tune in for any stations at all, I tried numerous times as well. Being on the ground floor we could hear every footstep of the people above us at 6.30am..... I know this cannot be overcome, just letting you know. All in all a great stay in a lovely property. However the code that was given to access the apartment was not working. We therefore had to wait 10 to 15 minutes in the cold to get a new code. The room was cold, therefore I turned on the radiator by turning the taps at the end. When it got too warm, I tried to turn it off but it would not turn off. I called the helpline but they said they would not be able to help. I had to sleep with no duvet on, window open and luckily there was also a fan available to help me cool down. There was also a light that we could not find a switch for that stayed on all night, this also disturbed my sleep. ##### Verified traveller Stayed 1 night in Oct 2023 Verified ### 4/10 Poor #### Ruth 12 Aug 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, property conditions & facilities, communication We stayed in the Nightingale Room of The Old Infirmary for a week in July 2024 to attend various events at the Three Choirs Festival. The location was great as everything was within walking distance. The parking spaces were very convenient. Having said that, I cannot recommend this particular room as a place to stay, unless you are only going for one night without luggage. The room was clean, comfortable and full of character but, apart from a Hobbit-sized ‘hanging rail’ under the stairs, there was nowhere to store any clothing. There was no wardrobe, shelves or chest of drawers, just three coat-hooks in the entrance lobby of the apartment. From this lobby there was a flight of 12 stairs leading up to the living area - without a handrail! We were prepared for the room to be noisy (ear plugs were provided) owing to the proximity of the adjacent Asda store. I assumed it would be early deliveries by large lorries, but that was not too much of a problem. What was annoying was the constant, very loud noise from the ventilation fans on Asda’s roof a short distance from our window. The bathroom would hold no fear for any cats wandering in, as it was only about a metre wide, and the reduced ceiling height for most of the room made for a very uncomfortable visit. Another small point is that the mirror in the bathroom was behind you as you stood at the sink – not very convenient.With a litle thought this room could offer very good accommodation. The throw on the sofa hid its poor stained condition and it was not comfortable. Different sized wine glasses were provided. A tea towel was provided. There was no draining board, so the tea towel was needed to stand the washed items on and was not available to dry up. The carpet was stained. No welcome pack was provided (described on the website). The housekeeper said she could only get some items, so there was no point, as people would only complain. There were plenty of tea bags. 5 servings of milk were provided for 2 people for a 4-day stay. Minimal cutlery and crockery were provided (a single side plate and 2 dinner plates), not adequate to cut up rotisserie chicken. There wasn't a spare knife to butter bread. There was salt but no pepper. The kettle (for hot plate) had no whistle. No microwave instructions were provided and the housekeeper supplied a copy for a different microwave. The small rubbish bin had no extra bin bags and no instructions for disposing of extra rubbish. We provided initial feedback (requested by Expedia). The housekeeper (Laura) contacted us and addressed some of our concerns. When challenged on the assorted wine glasses, she replied guests just steal things, so there was no point in providing matching ones. She said one tea towel was provided, as guest leave the washing up for her to do. Our stay at the old Infirmary was wonderful! We loved the building, inside and outside. Our room Pasteur Studio was absolutely lovely, it was so clean, organised and smelt nice, the fixtures, fittings, furniture, furnishings were beautiful and all of a high quality. The bed was so comfortable, it was lovely to sleep in. The shower was really nice to use and everything else in the bathroom was great, the shampoo and shower gel were really good, both smelt really nice. All the products in the bathroom were Molten Brown which was a fabulous touch. The fan was fantastic and was definitely needed as it did get hot in the room at times. The location was amazing, so close to the town and it was quiet at night! We had everything we needed!
