"We had booked a room so we could be close to the Century II where our event was being held. When we arrived to check in after a long drive (9:30pm), we were told the hotel had an "HVAC issue" that led to them shutting down a couple of floors. We were told they didn't have a room for us. No advance call, no warning.
They rebooked us at another Mariott property, an Aloft, hotel which was 30 minutes away and made for transportation and parking issues. It totally changed our trip and the Aloft we were sent to was not very nice.
While the hotel did find us a room and comped our room, the total lack of communication in the hours leading up to our arrival was extremely disappointing. Being told by the staff that the Aloft we were rebooked at was only "5 minutes away" when it was 30 minutes away was also misleading and disappointing. To add to it, I now am on some sort of Ambassador and Mariott marketing email lists that are pretty excessive.
The entire experience could and should have been handled better by the hotel with some advance communication. "
