For most travellers, the best time to visit West Arnhem is during the dry season, which runs from May to October.During these months, the weather is consistently warm and sunny with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the region's natural beauty. The average daily temperatures range from the mid-20s to low 30s Celsius. This period also sees less rainfall, which means roads and tracks are more accessible, and most attractions are open. This time of year is particularly well-suited for those looking to experience the region's iconic rock art sites and national parks like Kakadu and Arnhem Land. The lower water levels in billabongs and rivers make wildlife spotting, especially birds and crocodiles, easier. It's also prime time for guided cultural tours, which often have limited availability outside of the dry season.
