We based our amenities on our own travel and how we would like to be treated. About the space: A cute studio apartment in the basement of a newly renovated home. Guests have a private entrance with their own private bathroom. You also have use of a full-size washer and dryer. Other amenities include an honor bar stocked with beer and wine, an arcade style game with over 200 popular titles including Ms. Pac Man, and coffee/tea. Please note that we live upstairs, but the space is private. It is separated by a stairwell and a locking door. It is comparable to a standard hotel room, but nicer. Your health and safety are our top priorities. Even before the Coronavirus outbreak, the entire apartment is cleaned thoroughly after each guest. This includes sanitization of all surfaces and machine washing of all linens, including the bed comforter. While still providing plenty of hand soap, we have also added hand sanitizer to the space. We expect this will foster a healthy space which allows our guests to enjoy their stay. As a further precaution, we have added an air purifier to the space. It's very quiet and cleans all of the air through a HEPA filter every 30 minutes. We've also added one to the main floor of the house. Finally, there are 4 video cameras at the property. One records the front of the house, one records the side yard, one records the entry to the apartment, and one records the backyard. We also have a camera in our living room on the upper floor but there are no cameras in the VRBO space. You will have private access to the entire space. Please do not come upstairs unless you give notice. We have a cat who loves to dart down to the basement unit. We will only come downstairs for emergencies or with your prior approval in exceptional circumstances. Please obtain pre-approval before having guests over that were not included in the original reservation. The space leads to the fully fenced backyard. There is a seating area and a fire pit. If you bring your pets, they are welcome to relax back there. We keep ours confined to the upstairs. The neighborhood is a quiet, working class, historically African-American area. Our neighbors are awesome and we know most of them. We all keep an eye out for each other, though the neighborhood feels very suburban. Mark and I moved here shortly before our 2018 wedding and have made many happy memories here. The H Street Corridor is nearby (15 minute drive) and boasts superb restaurants and entertainment. The Benning Ridge Metro station is a short 12 minute walk away. There are also several bus stops near the property. We live upstairs and you may choose to interact with us as little or as much as you like. We are happy to help you with sightseeing, area restaurants, etc. Our backyard is completely enclosed with a 6 foot privacy fence. It's perfect for letting your pet do its "business,” but be sure to clean up afterwards. You may hear us upstairs walking around, but we are pretty quiet. We go to bed early and get up early. One of us is a teacher and the other a Federal Government employee, so we work very hard. I travel for work and have long days so it was almost like coming home each day, even to my dogs! I was so comfortable the whole time. Terry was so friendly and hospitable and even left treats for the dogs. Many places say “dog friendly” but they truly mean it. I didn’t feel the need to worry at all about them while I was out working during the day. He even suggested a pet store and restaurants. I’ve already re-booked for future work trips. Overall a wonderful “homey” experience. There was also everything I could have needed if I wanted to make easy meals. Hands down 5/5\. See you next month! ##### Rachel F. This basement level, one room, one bathroom space was amazing! It had all the amenities we needed and seemed very spacious even with three of us in the room. There was room to eat, work and just hang out. it was very clean and well organized. It was about a 15 minute walk to the nearest metro station and a 20 minute walk from the metro (because a lot of it is uphill). Easy access in and out of the space. It was clean, it had a lot of amenities and little details, which made our stay very pleasant and comfortable. The owners make you feel welcomed and at home. In the evenings we played some of the games available on the premises. It has an air purifier running, which was extremely helpful for my allergies. It was a bit cold in the evenings to use the outside patio (March), but it was beautiful with the lights on in the evening. We went outside just to look at them. We used the Benning Street Metro Station to go to the National Mall and visit monuments, museums, and a few restaurants. The staff at the station were incredibly helpful when we were trying to buy our Metro passes. We visited the Trader Joe's off the Eastern Market Metro station to get a few items to eat and drink at the apartment since there is fridge/freezer unit. It was safe walking to and from the station-we only walked during daytime to be clear. Thank you for making our visit such a pleasant one. ##### Barbara A. We Loved the space. Terry and Mark was very accommodating. The app wasn’t working so we had to use the website which was not user friendly. Didn’t see that we had to pick the entry code before we got there but Terry was great with helping us asap. Everything in the space was lovely. The attention to detail was top notch. Everything was awesome until our checkout day. You can hear the hosts upstairs which isn’t bad. The last day of check out we were awoken around 8:20 am with loud sounds of vacuuming and cleaning. ( we wanted to sleep in since we used the last night to have some fun on the town but with the noise it wasn’t possible). The neighborhood was quiet for the most part so street parking wasn’t much of a concern. So we opted for street parking oppose to paying $15 to park with the host. We had no problem finding parking on the street unfortunately the morning we were leaving someone side swipe my car in a hit and run. So I left with a damaged bumper, broken tail light, and restless. I would recommend this property to further guests just be cautious with parking. ##### Jody K. The hosts made it very easy to check in/out, they were great at communicating with me and the room was a perfect fit. There wasn't as much going on in the neighborhood itself, but I was moreso on the trip to explore the monuments and museums in DC and the metro stop was a quick easy walk from the residence which I loved!
