Great home
The home was warm, inviting, and very comfortable. Thom, the property manager was on point and made sure we had everything we needed. The home is in a very quiet area and the grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The home had everything we needed and a lot of extras for the beach. I Highly recommend this home and will stay here again when I come back to the Big Island

Big Island Paradise
This is a beautiful spacious and well-equipped home with great aloha. Clean and well-maintained home and yard. We enjoyed all the amenities. A few minute-drive to Kilauea Volcano National Park. A short 40-minute drive to all the Hilo activities and great snorkeling beaches. A pleasant and beautiful 2-hour drive to Kailua-Kona (west side). This a very peaceful place to relax and make your basecamp for all the island's numerous activities.

The Mamane house is great!
There was plenty of room for our big family. I was pleasantly surprised at how spacious it was on the inside. They had a lot of things for young kids, like multiple cribs and plenty of toys to play with. There was also a good collection of board games and lawn games for the adults. The amount of beach stuff was awesome as well. There was plenty of dishes and cookware to cover all our needs, which was really nice. I really enjoyed the stay!

Great place to stay
This house was in the perfect spot to enjoy the big island. It is close enough to Hilo to go shopping for food and trinkets. An added plus is that it is also close to Volcano National Park to enjoy hiking. The house was fully stocked with everything we needed. The kitchen lacked for nothing! We even took time out of our stay to just sit at the picnic bench in the front and enjoy the foliage. The covered back porch, with table and chairs was perfect for the two times it decided to rain during our visit. The home owners were easy to work with for scheduling and checking in on us to make sure everything was running smoothly. I would absolutely stay at this house again!
Had a great time with family. Lockbox was a bit tricky to open, but not serious. Tile floor downstairs a bit slippery but still nice to have. Close to all things volcanic in the Park. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT - Kilauea did not erupt! Maybe next time.
Thank you so much - Ed

Great retreat!
My sister, cousin and I spent a full, incredible week in Hawaii. This house was perfect to meet our needs. The house was clean and fully stocked. It is a short drive to both the volcano and Hilo. The house sits in a quite area and we felt very safe. Yes, the house is an older home but the owners clearly have tried to keep it in good condition. Because the house is on the east side of the island where there is more rain and humidity, the house had a musty smell when we arrived. However, the owner has 3 dehumidifiers in the house and after we turned them on, the musty smell and humidity went away. We absolutely will return to this rental the next time we go to the Big Island!

Loved this house!
We absolutely loved this house! The location was great and the yard is to die for! We loved being in the cooler higher elevation. The house was very spacious with lots of space for our belongings. We had plenty of supplies of everything we needed (blankets, pillows, soaps, trash bags, kitchen items of all sorts, etc). We loved being able to borrow anything we needed for the beach too! There were plenty of toys, games, and movies to keep our kids entertained at night. I cannot say enough good things about this house and it's property manager!Tip: if the dehumidifiers won't turn on, it is because the water collection tank needs to be emptied (about every 8 hours or so). They work like a charm and controlled the humidity so well in the house!

great place to stay
very close to volcanoes national park, perfect place to stay and spend several days exploring the park.
Thom was very accommodating and helped us when we got thereWe were sad to miss the music. He hosted at the lava tree park, but we’ll make sure we hit it up next time.
Our stay could not have been better. The home was comfortable, clean, and had everything we needed, but the real highlight was the location. From here we were close to everything—Volcano National Park, Hilo, South Point, Nā‘ālehu and the Punaluʻu Bake Shop, Punaluʻu Black Sand Beach, and even surfing at Honoliʻi. A perfect five-star stay we would absolutely book again!

Cool and comfortable!
Home and amenities were top notch! Quiet at evening as foliage blocks road noise. Stayed with a large group and slept on the pull-out bed in living room for 7 nights . Most comfortable pull-out I have ever used! Better than most hotel beds too!
Great place to stay while visiting the Volcano National Park. The home has everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. There is a well stocked kitchen, an information book is provided that is very helpful, along with printed maps detailing all there is to see in Hawaii. All beach necessities are in the home including snorkel gear, beach chairs, ice chests, etc. The home site is beautiful. It is located in a quiet and peaceful area. We enjoyed our stay and hope to be back again soon!
Thom was very attentive and helpful during our stay. We had no issues and loved the space for our family.

Great Family friendly house and neighborhood!
I have stayed in many places around the USA and this was by far the BEST experience I have ever had! This house is a mazing! I brought my wife and three kids and there was plenty of room for more! It's just steps away from Volcanoes National Park and just a short drive some of the most amazing beaches Hawaii can offer! It's in the middle of the rainforest with mind-blowing views! We saw a variety of wildlife from our bedroom window! The neighborhood is very peaceful and Thom is a great and very attentive host.
If you want to experience the best Hawaii has to offer you need to stay in this place!

Cockroaches of varying sizes crawled across the kitchen floors, counters, stovetop, and bathroom counter. We saw at least two dozen. I took video and texted the manager. This place is like staying at a distance relative's. The floors are dirty, bedroom linens are old, pillows are old, bathroom towels are old, thin, and bleach stained, and the kitchen towels have an old oil smell. When you wipe your hands or dry the dishes, your hands and dishes then smell like old oil. The bed I slept on had no mattress protector. None of the pillows upstairs had pillow protectors so when we took off the pillowcases upon leaving, the sweatstains were visible. The upstairs toilet had a urine smell, and there was a layer of dust in the fake plant and all along the window screen. The dehumidifier near the washing machine had a layer of dust in the back. I found a bathing suit and kids cap under one of the beds and they didn't belong to us, signaling that cleaning is not happening as they would have been found if someone just looked. There is snorkel gear and rusted beach chairs we didn't use. The home has toys and other beach or water-related items we didn't use. The yard and house are spacious. We didn't use the downstairs bedroom or bathroom and left them untouched. The good aspects of the home don't make up for the fact that we have to unpack our belongings outside to prevent roaches from entering our home! We can overlook the old linens, not the uncleanliness that led to roaches.

Cool and peaceful
We were greeted with a beautiful assortment of tropical fruit when we arrived at the Mamane House. The property feels quite isolated but is really just a few minutes drive from the little town of Volcano and about a half hour from Hilo. There was plenty of room for our family of 6 and the house is well-stocked with extras like beach chairs and baby equipment. The only issue we had was that the house was very musty when we arrived, as if it had been closed up for a long time. The area was quite rainy and damp so it's understandable that there might be some mold or mildew somewhere. The house was clean but the smell persisted throughout our stay. We brought in some ginger flowers, which helped a little. Folks who have allergies to such things may not be comfortable staying here.

Old and Dingy
The property itself is quite beautiful if you want to be a forest like setting. The house however is quite old and felt very dirty. The bedding, pillows, and extra blankets were gross. Extra blankets and pillow were left in the middle of the living room and they were pretty disgusting. The bottom living area and bedroom were dark, cold, and dingy. The downstairs bath had no privacy. The washing machine kept turning off on its own before it hit the spin cycle so we had to go to a laundry mat because our clothes were sopping wet. The kitchen was too small and layout made it impossible to move around. It was a constant traffic jam. The photos online make the house look a lot bigger and better than it actually is.
Great location. Plenty of space. Complete with all the amenities. Cleanliness was okay. Property manager was excellent and replied quickly with all questions/needs. Would stay there again.

Rainforest hideaway!!!
The Mamane House is an amazing rainforest hideaway!!! Great for families big or small! Our family of three didn't even use the abundance of space downstairs, including the master bedroom. The two bedrooms and living area upstairs were plenty for us but should you have a large family or bigger group, this would be great also! Minutes from the National Park yet completely secluded in the rainforest. Large grass backyard, quaint picnic areas and beautiful rainforest plants on the property. 30 minutes from Hilo for all your beach needs. Speaking of beaches, make sure you check out all the beach gear downstairs! Chairs, coolers, snorkels! Check in/out was a breeze, would definitely recommend a stay at the Mamane House!
This property is in a perfect location if you're wanting to spend time in Volcano National Park. It is literally about 5 minutes down the road.
The property was ready when we arrived, and we had no trouble accessing it. This place is quite literally right in the middle of a rainforest. We arrived after dark, and when I opened my car door, it sounded like the rainforest setting on a noise machine! It was so cool. Thom was a great host and answered any questions we had very promptly, both before and during our stay.
Everything was nice and clean, with comfortable beds, plenty of hot water and lots of fresh towels. The kitchen was well stocked, and all the appliances were clean and ready to use. There were plenty of fans and A/C units, so we were able to keep air flowing and it was quite comfortable.
The master bedroom is on the bottom floor, which appears to be a garage that was converted into living space. This is actually great because it's much cooler downstairs. There's a small step up into the master bedroom, so be aware of that -- it can catch you by surprise.
Volcano National Park is spectacular, and it's worth spending a day or 2 there, depending on how much you want to see, and how much you're willing to walk. Start your day early, and there will be fewer crowds. You can pay for your park pass on your phone, so no worries if there's nobody at the entrance.
We also went into the park after dark, and the rangers guided us to an easy, 1 mile round-trip route out to view the lava flow, which was an incredible thing to see. Absolutely worth the walk. Then we stopped at the Thurston Lava Tube so our kids could walk through it in the dark with flashlights, which they said was spooky and super cool.
Hilo is not too far away, and there is stuff to do there as well. We went to Rainbow Falls, Akaka State Park, and there's also a small zoo as well.
There are some good restaurants around Volcano Village. We had breakfast at the Crater Rim Cafe inside VNP. They have a breakfast buffet for $12 a person. We also had breakfast one morning at the Lava Rock Cafe, which was very good. We had dinner at the Thai Thai Bistro, and it was excellent. Delicious Thai food, and there are some Western choices on the menu as well for those who prefer them.
